Kokomo City-Line Trolley
Kokomo City-Line Trolley, also simply known as "The trolley", is a free fixed transportation route serving the city of Kokomo, Indiana, in Howard County. History The city of Kokomo rolled out the buses in late 2010 which was the first bus system Kokomo had seen since the late 1960s. It started with just two smaller sized buses, and just two routes, the Red Line, and the Blue Line. The two routes criss crossed town north and south (Red Line), and east and west (Blue Line), and were both free. From 2010–2013 that is how it remained with only 118 bus stops. In mid 2013 the city rolled out two more buses and three more routes, with the Green Line, Orange Line, and Yellow Line being added to the two lines before. The previous Red Line was also altered in its route in 2013. The two new buses were much larger than the previous buses, and has an electronic reader on the front stating the line the bus runs. Kokomo ( ) is a city in Indiana and the county seat of Howard County, Indiana, United States. Indian Heights is a neighborhood in Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana, United States. Indian Heights was a census-designated place (CDP) also before its annexation into Kokomo. The population was 3,011 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kokomo, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. On January 1, 2012, the neighborhood of Indian Heights was legally annexed into the city of Kokomo's corporate boundary. Markland Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in Kokomo, Indiana. Opened in 1968, the mall's anchor stores are Target, Dunham's Sports, Books-A-Million, Carter's, PetSmart, Party City, Ross Dress for Less, ALDI, and Gravity Trampoline Park. In 2020 Dunham’s Sports took over the space that was occupied by Carson's. It is managed by Washington Prime Group. History Melvin Simon & Associates announced the development of Markland Mall in 1967. Original tenants included Sears, Danners 5 & 10, a Kroger supermarket, SupeRx drugstore, and an Ayr-Way discount store. The Danners store became William H. Block Co. in 1974. Ayr-Way was converted to Target along with the rest of the Ayr-Way chain in 1981. In 1985, the William H. Kokomo High School
Kokomo High School (merged with Haworth High School in 1984) is a four-year public high school in Kokomo, Indiana, USA. The school is the only high school in the Kokomo School Corporation. History The earliest Kokomo High School found in records was in existence from about 1872 to 1916. The construction of the original Kokomo High School started in 1870 on the corner of Armstrong and Taylor with the first class commencing in 1872 according to a newspaper of that time. In 1898 the original high school burned down and a second building was built on the corner of Market and Sycamore. In 1914 the high school was again destroyed by fire. The third campus of Kokomo High School, first known as Howard County's Central School Building, was dedicated on October 19, 1917. Marion Transit System
Marion Transit System (MTS) is the primary provider of mass transportation in Marion, Indiana, with five routes serving the region. As of 2019, the system provided 257,760 rides over 14,708 annual vehicle revenue hours with 5 buses and 1 paratransit vehicle. Public transit in Marion began with horsecars in 1889, with the Marion Street Railway Co. In 1893, the horsecars were replaced with streetcars, which in turn were replaced by buses in 1947. In 2021, a mural was painted on a building across from the bus terminal, depicting an interurban that formerly provided transit service in the city. From 2020 through 2022, bus schedules were limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic and later staffing shortages.
