Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2018
The Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2018 was the fourth edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, an international exhibition of contemporary art held in Kochi, Kerala. This edition which was curated by Anita Dube began on 12 December 2018 and ended on 29 March 2019. Like the previous editions, Aspinwall House, Pepper House, Kasi Art Cafe, Cabral Yard, David Hall are the main venues of this biennale. This biennale was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan. The Kochi-Muziris Biennale is an initiative of the Kochi Biennale Foundation with support from the Government of Kerala. History In May 2010, Mumbai based contemporary artists of Kerala origin, Bose Krishnamachari and Riyaz Komu, were approached by then culture minister of Kerala, M.A Baby to start an international art project in the state. Contemporary Art
Contemporary art is the art of today, produced in the second half of the 20th century or in the 21st century. Contemporary artists work in a globally influenced, culturally diverse, and technologically advancing world. Their art is a dynamic combination of Medium (arts), materials, methods, concepts, and subjects that continue the challenging of boundaries that was already well underway in the 20th century. Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook
Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook (born 1957) is a Thai artist who works primarily with film and video. She currently lives in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Early life and education Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook was born in Trat, Thailand, in 1957. She received a Fine Art degree from Silpakorn University, Bangkok, in 1986, and Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig in Germany. Araya listed the death date of her parents and her grandmother on her curriculum vitae, indicating the importance of including autobiographical and collective experience in her work. Artworks Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook experimented with intaglio printmaking and sculptural installations in the 1980s and 1990s, before starting to focus in on film and video. Anju Dodiya
Anju Dodiya (born 7 April 1964) is an Indian contemporary painter. Her paintings feature autobiographical and human relationships, with 'women' usually at the center. Her works are frequently a juxtaposition of watercolor and charcoal as a medium. She lives and works in Mumbai. Life and education Anju Dodia was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She has graduated from Sir J. J. School of Art in 1986 with a BFA in Painting. She is the wife of Atul Dodiya, who is also a notable contemporary Indian painter. Anoli Perera
Anoli Perera, born in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1962, is a contemporary visual artist. She incorporates in her work the concept of “ bricolage” in which fragments from different written texts, raw materials, objects and painted surfaces are combined to create a textured surface. She is among the 1990s generation of artists who have assumed a new ideological position with reference to the production of contemporary art and its social aspects in Sri Lanka. Anjali Monteiro is a documentary filmmaker, media educator and researcher who lives in Mumbai. She is currently Professor and Dean at the School of Media and Cultural Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Jointly with K.P. Akram Zaatari
Akram Zaatari (born 1966 in Sidon, Lebanon) is a filmmaker, photographer, archival artist and curator. In 1997, he co-founded the Arab Image Foundation with photographers Fouad Elkoury, and Samer Mohdad. His work is largely based on collecting, studying and archiving the photographic history of the Arab World. Zaatari was selected to represent Lebanon at the 2013 Venice Biennale by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, curators for the Lebanese Pavilion.
