Knuthenborg
Knuthenborg is a manor house located north of Maribo on the Danish island of Lolland. Originally known as Årsmarke, it was first mentioned in 1372. Today's building was completed in 1866 to a design by Henrik Steffens Sibbern. The medieval manor of Årsmarke, with its more than 300 years of history, was once Denmark's largest private estate; it is now part of Knuthenborg Safaripark. The exotic shrubs and trees planted during the era of the Counts of Knuthenborg are situated on the grounds. Geography The 2,000 acre estate is surrounded by beech forests. Since 1969, Knuthenborg Safari Park has attracted large numbers of visitors who come to see some 40 species of exotic animals and birds as well as special attractions for children. Knuthenborg Safaripark
Knuthenborg Safaripark is a safari park on the island of Lolland in the southeast of Denmark. It is located 7 km (on Rte 289) to the north of Maribo, near Bandholm. It is one of Lolland's major tourist attractions with over 250,000 visitors annually, and is the largest safari park in northern Europe. It is also the largest natural playground for both children and adults in Denmark. Among others, it houses an arboretum, aviaries, a drive-through safari park, a monkey forest (with baboons, tamarins and lemurs) and a tiger enclosure. Adam Christopher Knuth (1687–1746)
Adam Christopher (von) Knuth (28 September 1687 - 23 January 1736) was the first Count of Knuthenborg. He established the manor of Knuthenlund. He was married twice, first to Hedevig Ulrikke Luxdorph and second time to Ida Margrethe von Reventlow. Early life and education Knuth was born as the son of Eggert Christopher von Knuth and Søster Knuth née Lerche. His mother inherited the estate Årsmarke on Lolland in 1791. He studied at the Knight's Academy in Copenhagen from 1705 to 1707 and also went on a journey to the Netherlands and England in 1707. Property and titles Knuth was appointed chamberlain in 1710. His mother converted Årsmarke into a countship for her eldest son when, in 1714, Adam Christoffer von Knuth was elevated to the status of a count under Frederick IV which resulted in the change of the estate to Knuthenborg. Lolland

Christopher Knudsen Urne
Christoffer Knudsson Urne til Årsmarke (27 October 1593 – 27 September 1663) was a Danish civil servant. He served as Governor-general of Norway from 1629 to 1642. Biography He was born at Halsted Priory on the island of Lolland, Denmark. He was the son of Knud Axelsen Urne til Årsmarke (1564–1622) and Margrethe Eilersdatter Grubbe til Alslev (1568–1654). He was a brother-in-law of Ove Gjedde who married his sister Dorothy Knudsdatter Urne (1600-1667). He attended Sorø Academy 1605-09 and studied 6 years in Europe with his brothers. He became secretary of the chancellor of Denmark until he became a treasurer in 1617, which he remained until 1627. In 1627 was granted supervision of Nykøbing and Ålholm and made commissioner-general of the market towns of Lolland and Falster. He served as Steward of Norway from 1629 to 1642. After 13 years in Norway he returned to Denmark, and to the position of the chancellor of Denmark (''rikskansler'') from 1646 to 1660. ...
