Knut Schoch
Knut Schoch is a German tenor in opera and concert as a specialist in the field of historically informed performance, and an academic voice teacher. Career Knut Schoch studied voice in Hamburg with Wilfried Jochens and Alan Speer. In 1999, he was awarded at the Concours Musica Antiqua Bruges. In the field of historically informed performance he has collaborated with Thomas Hengelbrock, Ton Koopman, Sigiswald Kuijken and Ludger Remy. He has performed oratorios by George Frideric Handel and the part of the Evangelist in Bach's Passions. Schoch appeared in Baroque and classical opera, including the title role in Monteverdi's ''L'Orfeo'', Campra's ''L'Europe galante'', Handel's ''Almira'' and ''Alcina'', and Mozart's operas ''Zaide'', ''Die Entführung aus dem Serail'' and ''Die Zauberflöte''. Tenor
A tenor is a type of classical music, classical male singing human voice, voice whose vocal range lies between the countertenor and baritone voice types. It is the highest male chest voice type. The tenor's vocal range extends up to C5. The low extreme for tenors is widely defined to be B2, though some roles include an A2 (two As below middle C). Zaide
''Zaide'' (originally, ''Das Serail'') is an unfinished German-language opera, K. 344, written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1780. Emperor Joseph II, in 1778, was in the process of setting up an opera company for the purpose of performing German opera. One condition required of the composer to join this company was that he should write a comic opera. At Salzburg in 1779 Mozart began work on a new opera (now known as ''Zaide'' although Mozart did not give it such a title). It contains spoken dialogue, which also classifies it as a ''Singspiel'' (literally, "singing play"). Only the arias and ensembles from the first two acts were composed. Missing are an overture and third act. It was popular at the time for operas to depict the rescue of enslaved Westerners from Muslim courts, since Muslim pirates were preying on Mediterranean shipping, particularly to obtain slaves for various purposes. Robert Schumann
Robert Schumann (; 8 June 181029 July 1856) was a German composer, pianist, and influential music critic. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of the Romantic era. Schumann left the study of law, intending to pursue a career as a virtuoso pianist. His teacher, Friedrich Wieck, a German pianist, had assured him that he could become the finest pianist in Europe, but a hand injury ended this dream. Louis Spohr (, 5 April 178422 October 1859), baptized Ludewig Spohr, later often in the modern German form of the name Ludwig, was a German composer, violinist and conductor. Norman Shetler (born 16 June 1931, Dubuque, Iowa) is a pianist, puppeteer and puppet constructor, and piano professor. Originally from America, he now lives in Austria. Life and career Norman Shetler was born in Dubuque, Iowa in 1931. He planned to attend Juilliard, but before he could attend he was drafted into the army. During WWII, he served mostly as a typist. A fortepiano , sometimes referred to as a pianoforte, is an early piano. In principle, the word "fortepiano" can designate any piano dating from the invention of the instrument by Bartolomeo Cristofori in 1698 up to the early 19th century. Most typically, however, it is used to refer to the mid-18th to early-19th century instruments for which composers of the Classical era, especially Haydn, Mozart, and the younger Beethoven wrote their piano music. Starting in Beethoven's time, the fortepiano began a period of steady evolution, culminating in the late 19th century with the modern grand. Ludger Rémy (4 February 1949 – 21 June 2017) was a German harpsichordist, conductor and musicologist.
