Granada Hills is a suburban neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of the City of Los Angeles. The community has a sports program and a range of city recreation centers. The neighborhood has fourteen public and ten private schools. History The community began as dairy farm and orchard known as the Sunshine Ranch which grew apricots, oranges, walnuts and beans. Vestiges of former citrus groves can still be seen in orange, lemon or grapefruit trees in many residential yards. In 1916, the San Fernando Valley's first oil well was drilled in what is now Granada Hills. The oil well was located at the northern tip of Zelzah Avenue. Granada Hills was founded in 1926 as "Granada;" the "Hills" portion of the name was added 15 years later. Knollwood is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lake County, Illinois, United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 2,221. It is located within Shields Township and Libertyville Township. Knollwood shares a ZIP Code with the neighboring village of Lake Bluff, and children attend Lake Bluff schools. The residents of Knollwood were served by the Knollwood Fire Department until October 2018, after the trustees of the Rockland Fire Protection District ended their relationship with the department. Residents now receive fire protection from the Libertyville and Lake Forest fire departments. Police protection is provided by the Lake County Sheriff's Department. Knollwood is an historic estate at 425 Salisbury Street in Worcester, Massachusetts. Originally encompassing about , the estate has been reduced to only , and is now home to the Notre Dame Academy. The estate was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It is one of the city's grandest surviving early 20th-century estates. Knollwood was built in the 1910s for industrialist Lyman Gordon (1861-1914), cofounder of Wyman-Gordon, although he died before it was completed. The main house is a -story stucco construction, topped by a complex hipped tile roof. Its basic form is that of a central block with slightly asymmetrical flanking wings. The central portion has a slightly recessed pavilion that rises a full three stories to a decorated gable. The eastern flanking wing housed kitchen facilities, while the west wing end features a Palladian window on the first floor which leads out to a terrace. Knollwood is an historic summer estate house on Windmill Hill Road in Dublin, New Hampshire. The large -story "summer cottage" was designed by Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge and built in 1899-1900 for banker Franklin MacVeagh. One of Dublin's major summer estate houses, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Description and history Knollwood is located in southeastern Dublin, on the south side of Upper Jaffrey Road at its junction with Snow Hill Road. The main house is located well south of the road, on a cleared plateau with panoramic views of nearby Mount Monadnock and the hills to the south. The house is a -story frame structure, with a hip roof and shingled exterior. Knollwood is an antebellum historic house at 6411 Kingston Pike in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States. It is also known as Knollwood Hall, Major Reynolds House, the Tucker Mansion and Bearden Hill. The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The home and plantation were developed on land purchased from James White, the founder of Knoxville. Construction was supervised by Major Robert Reynolds' sister, Rebecca, while he was serving in the Mexican–American War. The house was completed in 1851. The home was originally built in the Federal style, but neoclassical details were added in the late 19th century. A later owner, Charles W. Griffith, added the distinctive front porch in 1919. Confederate General James Longstreet used the home as his headquarters in late 1863; he is reputed to have planned the Battle of Fort Sanders, part of the Knoxville Campaign, in the dining room.
