Education and career James Knoll Gardner was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on September 14, 1940. Thomas Knoll is an American software engineer who created Adobe Photoshop. He initiated the development of image processing routines in 1988. After Knoll created the first core routines, he showed them to his brother, John Knoll, who worked at Industrial Light and Magic. John liked what he saw, suggested new features, and encouraged Tom to bundle them into a package with a graphical user interface. Silke-Beate Knoll (born 21 February 1967 in Rottweil) is a former German track and field athlete and participant in the Olympic Games who had success in the 1980s and 1990s as a sprinter. Her first success was the 1986 German junior title over 200 metres. As part of the 4 × 200 metres relay team of the SC Eintracht Hamm, she set a world indoor record in 1988. Samuel Benjamin Cnoll
Samuel Benjamin Cnoll (1705 – 1767) was a German physician who worked in the Halle mission to Tranquebar. He was among the first to found a western-style pharmacy or ''Laboratorium Chymicum'' in India in 1732. Cnoll studied medicine at Halle and joined the Danish-Halle mission around 1732 and went to Tranquebar where he succeeded Dr Caspar Schlegelmilch who died just two months into his work. Cnoll supervised the local mission hospital. He took an interest in borax which was a substance exported from India and published a description in ''Acta Medica Hafniensis''. In order to find local botanical and other chemicals for use in treatments, as supplies from Europe were difficult to manage, he began to examine local plants of medical use.
