Knights of the Globe ( acronym, KG or K of G)Wyllie, Arthur, ''U.S. Swords'', 16 November 2008, p. 142. was an American social, military, charitable, and patriotic secret organization organized in Freeport, Illinois in 1889. Its originator and founder was a dentist, Dr. William W. Krape, of Freeport, Illinois. The KG secured the death benefit feature to its members through the Knights of the Globe Mutual Benefit Association (KGMBA), a non-secret, cooperative insurance company. The KGMBA was later called the Cosmopolitan Life Insurance Company. History The Knights of the Globe was organized in 1889 by Dr. William W. Krape, a dentist in Freeport, Illinois. Krape recruited members that included Freemasons prominent in the Scottish Rite, by Odd Fellows of the highest rank, and by members of the Ancient Order of United Workmen, Royal Arcanum, American Legion of Honor, Woodmen of the World, the Grand Army of the Republic, and other secret societies. Freeport, Illinois
Freeport is the county seat and largest city of Stephenson County, Illinois, United States. The population was 23,973 at the 2020 census, and the mayor of Freeport is Jodi Miller, elected in 2017. Pecatonica is a village in Winnebago County, Illinois, United States. It is part of the Rockford, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lena is a village in Stephenson County, Illinois. The population was 2,772 at the 2020 census. Lena was platted in 1853, and named after a place mentioned in a poem by Ossian. History In 1853, a railroad survey by Benjamin Dornblazer determined a course through present-day Lena. Samuel F. Dodds, who owned of land in the area, purchased an additional tract of on behalf of the railroad company and grading work was begun. Dodds owned a stone residence which still occupies Lot No. 1 on Lena Street, while Dr. F. Voightheld owned a log home (which has subsequently been demolished) near the train depot. At the time, these two buildings made up the extent of the town. The town was originally shaped as a parallelogram covering twenty-six blocks for a total of 304 housing lots. Lanark is a city in Carroll County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,504 at the 2020 census, down from 1,584 at the 2010 census. The city was named after Lanark, in Scotland. History Under the auspices of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road), Daniel W. Dame purchased , laid out the city of Lanark, and was elected its first mayor in 1861. Galena is the largest city in and the county seat of Jo Daviess County, Illinois, with a population of 3,308 at the 2020 census. Dixon is a city and the county seat of Lee County, Illinois, United States. The population was 15,733 as of the 2010 census, down from 15,941 in 2000.
