Knighton Town Football Club is a Welsh football club founded in 1887. They play in the Central Wales League Southern Division which is at the fourth tier of the Welsh football pyramid. 2015–16 The Return to Mid Wales Football's Top Division Knighton's return to top flight football in The Mid Wales League was successful, narrowly missing out on back-to-back league titles on the final day of the season to Penrhyncoch, just missing out on a return to The Cymru Alliance league by one point. They also did well in the FAW Cup reaching the 2nd round proper by defeating Kerry A.F.C. (H) 4–0, Welshpool Town (H) 2–1 in the qualifying rounds and Dyffryn Nant Vale (A) 2–1 in the 1st round before losing to Holywell Town (A) 6–3. Knighton, Powys
Knighton ( cy, Tref-y-clawdd or ) is a cross-border market town and community on the River Teme, straddling the border between Powys, Wales and Shropshire, England. The Teme is not navigable in its higher reaches and the border does not follow its course exactly. Originally an Anglo-Saxon settlement, Knighton is located on Offa's Dyke, the ancient earthwork that divided the two countries. It later became a Norman defensive border town. Toponymy The Welsh name, ''Tref-y-clawdd'', meaning and referring to "town on the dyke", was first recorded in 1262 and officially given to the town in 1971. Cymru Alliance
The Cymru Alliance League (known for sponsorship reasons as Huws Gray Alliance) was a football league in north and central Wales which formed the second level of the Welsh football league system. From the 2019/20 season onwards, it was replaced by the Cymru North. If the team which finished top of the league held a Domestic Licence, it could apply for promotion to the Welsh Premier League and was replaced by one of the bottom two teams in the Welsh Premier League. If the league champions did not hold a Domestic Licence, then the team which finished second, if in possession of a Domestic Licence, could be promoted instead. Welsh Cup
The FAW Welsh Cup ( cy, Cwpan Cymdeithas Pêl-droed Cymru), currently known as the JD Welsh Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a knock-out football competition contested annually by teams in the Welsh football league system. It is considered the most prestigious of the cup competitions in domestic Welsh association football. The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is the organising body of this competition, which has been run (except during the two World Wars and the COVID-19 pandemic) every year since its inception in 1877–78.
