Giacomo Gentilomo
Giacomo Gentilomo (5 April 1909 – 16 April 2001) was an Italian film director and painter. Biography Born in Trieste, at very young age Gentilomo moved to Rome, where at 21 years old he entered the cinema industry, working as a script survivor and an assistant director. Active between 1933 and 1937 as a film editor, in 1939 he debuted as a director with ''Il Carnevale di Venezia''. In 1945 his film ''O sole mio'' got critical acclaim, but later his career was mainly devoted to genre films, and failed to achieve significant critical interest. Dissatisfied with cinema, in the mid-1960s Gentilomo decided to abandon films and to fulfill his passion for painting. Gino Buzzanca (8 March 1912 – 5 May 1985) was an Italian film actor. Life and career Born in Messina, Buzzanca began his career on stage, specializing as an actor of the Sicilian language theater, and starring in works by Luigi Pirandello and Giovanni Verga. Discovered by Luigi Zampa, who offered him a role of weight in the film ''Easy Years'', Buzzanca then had a long film career as a character actor, often cast in negative roles. He also appeared in several Spaghetti Westerns, usually credited as Bill Jackson. He was the uncle of the actor Lando Buzzanca. Ivano Staccioli (3 January 1927 – 15 July 1995) was an Italian film actor. Staccioli made 70 appearances between 1960 and 1991, mostly in film. He is best known for his appearances in historical adventures and action or western films in the 1960s. Particularly in the early 1960s he appeared in many gladiatorial films or ancient epics. In 1965 he starred in the western ''30 Winchester per El Diablo'' and '' A 008, operazione Sterminio'', a spoof of the James Bond genre. In the mid to late 1960s he was often credited as John Heston for Italian films dubbed for the American audience, particularly his westerns. He also appeared in a number of Italian giallo films, such as ''La morte accarezza a mezzanotte'' and '' The Flower with the Petals of Steel''. Two of his last films before retiring were controversial Nazi death camp films, ''KZ9" and ''SS Girls'', both directed by Bruno Mattei. Vittorio Nino Novarese (May 15, 1907 in Rome, Italy – October 17, 1983 in Los Angeles, United States) was an Italian costume designer who found great success in Hollywood after decamping there in 1949. In his first year there he scored an Oscar nomination for his work on the film ''Prince of Foxes'', winning the Academy Award 14 years later for the grandiose epic ''Cleopatra''. He was also nominated twice in 1965 for both '' The Agony and the Ecstasy'' and ''The Greatest Story Ever Told'', and won a second Oscar in 1970 for ''Cromwell''. Novarese was trained as a militarist, but contrary to what one might think from the name, this only gave him the classical training to know how soldiers of different ranks were dressed and armed throughout history.
