Klintholm
Klintholm is an estate near Mons Klint on the Danish island of Møn. Originally owned by the Crown, since 1798 the estate has belonged to the Scavenius family. In 1838, a three-winged stone complex was built by G.F. Hetsch in the Neoclassical style and in 1875, a new manor house designed by August Klein in the Renaissance Revival style was completed but it was demolished in 2000. History 17th century In the middle of the 18th century, the area was part of the Crown estate of Højemøn. The crown land on Møn was in 1769 divided into five estates and sold in public auction. Estate No. 5 was sold to Hans Tersling from Falster for 50,000 rigsdaler. In 1774, Tersling sold the estate to Ditlev Staal, a merchant from Stubbejøbing, for 42,358 rigsdaler. He also purchased Pølsegården, a farm that Tersling had failed to acquire, where he most likely resided until the buildings on the Klintholm estate had been completed. Klintholm Havn
Klintholm Havn is a fishing village and a popular tourist resort on the south coast of Møn, an island in Vordingborg Municipality, southeastern Denmark. As of 1 January 2012, the population is 201. The harbour was built in 1878 by C.S. Scavenius, owner of the nearby Klintholm Estate, as a means of exporting local produce and chalk. The harbour is the service port for the 600 MW Kriegers Flak wind farm. Attractions Klintholm Havn has now become an active fishing port as well as a popular tourist resort with several restaurants and art galleries. Attractions include the large marina, two sandy beaches, a supermarket and a fresh fish shop. The marina, which has full facilities, allows boat access at all states of the tide and provides safe haven whatever the wind direction. In the summer, there are commercial boat excursions providing excellent views of Møns Klint, a stretch of towering chalk cliffs along the eastern coast of the island. Peder Brønnum Scavenius
Peder Brønnum Scavenius (6 January 1795 - 4 December 1868) was a Denmark, Danish landowner and politician. He was the owner of Gjorslev on the Stevns Peninsula, Klintholm Manor, Klintholm on Møn and Petersgaard at Vordingborg. He was an also involved in politics and by royal appointment a member of the Danish Constituent Assembly. Early life and career Scavenius was born on 6 January 1795 in Copenhagen, the eldest son of Jacob Brønnum Scavenius and Karine L. Debes. His father had purchased Gjorslev, Erikstrup and Søholm on Stevns from the Lindencrone family in 1793 after spending 14 years in the service of the Danish Asiatic Company in Bengal. Peder Brønnum Scavenius earned a law degree (cand.jur.) in 1816 and then worked for the Treasury until 1834. Property and titles Scavenius inherited Gjorslev and the other estates on Stevns Peninsula, Stevns upon his mother's death in 1825. Møn
Møn () is an island in south-eastern Denmark. Until 1 January 2007, it was a municipality in its own right but it is now part of the municipality of Vordingborg, after merging with the former municipalities of Langebæk, Præstø, and Vordingborg. This has created a municipality with an area of and a total population of 46,307 (2005). It belongs to the Region Sjælland ("Zealand Region"). Møn is one of Denmark's most popular destinations for tourists with its white chalk cliffs, countryside, sandy beaches and the market town of Stege. Jacob Brønnum Scavenius
Jacob Brønnum Scavenius (2 April 1749 – 20 June 1820) was a Danish landowner. Early life and career Scavenius was born in Skagen in 1749 as the 9th of 11 children of merchant Peder Christensen Brønnum (or Brøndum) and Anne Ibsdatter. He graduated from Aalborg Grammar School in 1770 and assumed the name Scavenius (a latinification of for ''Skagbo'' = person from Skagen). Scavenius was a volunteer in (Treasury) until 1776 when he was employed as an assistant for the Danish Asiatic Company in India. He returned to Denmark as a wealthy man in 1792 after spending 15 years in Bengal. Property and titles Scavenius purchased the Gjorslev, Erikstrup and Søholm on Stevns from the Lindencrone family in 1793. In 1798 he also purchased Klintholm on the island of Møn.
