''The Classic'' ( fi, Klassikko) is a 2001 Finnish comedy film directed by Kari Väänänen. It is based on Kari Hotakainen's semi-autobiographical novel ''Klassikko''. The film stars Martti Suosalo as writer Kari Hotakainen who receives an assignment from his publisher to write a confessional autobiographical novel. Pertti Sveholm won the best supporting actor Jussi Award for his role as police lieutenant Vikström. Kari Hotakainen
Kari Hotakainen (born 9 January 1957 in Pori, Finland) is a Finnish writer. Hotakainen started his writing career as a reporter in Pori. In 1986, he moved to Helsinki. He became a full-time writer in 1996. He has two children with his wife, sound technician Tarja Laaksonen, whom he married in 1983. He has also worked as a copywriter and as a columnist for the Helsingin Sanomat. Life and career His father, Keijo Hotakainen, worked as a storekeeper and photographer while his mother, Meeri Ala-Kuusisto, worked as a sales clerk. Kari Hotakainen passed his matriculation examination in 1976 and graduated from Rautalampi High School the same year. He has a Bachelor of Arts. Hotakainen kicked off his career as an author in the beginning of the 1980s by writing poetry. His debut collection ''Harmittavat takaiskut'' (''Unfortunate setbacks'') was published in 1982. Kari Väänänen
Kari Kyösti Väänänen (born 17 September 1953 in Ivalo) is a Finnish actor and director. Domestically he is a member of the Ryhmäteatteri group of actors. He was introduced to international audiences by Aki Kaurismäki, and belongs to the list of his "trusted" stable of actors. Väänänen has acted in more than 60 movies. He has received two Jussi awards, for best male actor in ''Jon'' (1983) and for best supporting male actor in ''Trench Road'' (2004). His performance as the monster Gollum in Yle's 1993 television series ''Hobitit'' was praised in ''Helsingin Sanomat''. In 1992–1998 Väänänen was a professor at the Helsinki Theatre Academy. Martti Suosalo
Martti Juhani Suosalo (born 19 July 1962) is a Finnish actor and singer. Suosalo was born in Oulu, and began his career in 1986 with an appearance in a TV series. He began to work as a regular actor on Finnish television but also appeared in several films in the early 1990s such as the 1994 film '' Aapo'' alongside actors such as Taisto Reimaluoto, Ulla Koivuranta and Kai Lehtinen. While most of his work has been in television in 1999 Suosalo appeared in just about every major film produced in Finland that year appearing on the big screen in films such as ''Rentun Ruusu'', ''Sibelius'' and ''Lapin kullan kimallus''. Pirkka-Pekka Petelius
Pirkka-Pekka Petelius (born 31 May 1953) is a Finnish actor, Film director, director, Film producer, producer, screenwriter and politician. He has also released six records as a singer. He is a member of the Green League and was elected to the Parliament of Finland, Finnish parliament in the 2019 election with 6,331 personal votes. Petelius's breakthrough was in Yleisradio's sketch series ''Velipuolikuu'' (1983), which he wrote and also acted in.
