Kiyoshi Hatanaka
__NOTOC__ is a retired Japanese boxer who is a former WBC super bantamweight champion. Hatanaka began karate at the first grade of elementary school, and won the Japanese championship in the juvenile division at its sixth grade and the first grade of junior high school. In addition, he began football at the fourth grade of elementary school, and was scouted by a prestigious high school. He also set an interval record in the local ekiden race at the age of a junior high school student. At that time, informed from an acquaintance that a professional boxer got paid 30,000 yen per match in the amount of time, he became interested in boxing and joined Matsuda Boxing Gym. He compiled an amateur record of 26–5 (21 KOs) before turning professional. Hatanaka made his professional debut with a first-round knockout victory in November 1984, at the age of a high school student. Super Bantamweight
Super bantamweight, also known as junior featherweight, is a weight class in professional boxing, contested from and up to . There were attempts by boxing promoters in the 1920s to establish this weight class, but few sanctioning organizations or state athletic commissions would recognize it. Jack Wolf won recognition as champion when he beat Joe Lynch at Madison Square Garden on September 21, 1922, but afterwards the weight division fell into disuse. The division was revived in the 1970s and the first title fight in 54 years in the division took place in 1976 when the World Boxing Council recognized Rigoberto Riasco as its champion when he defeated Waruinge Nakayama in eight rounds. Eddie Townsend
Edward "Eddie" Townsend (October 5, 1914 – February 1, 1988) was an American professional boxing trainer. He is revered in Japan for training several boxing world champions. An award given to boxing trainers was established in his honor and a boxing gym in Osaka, bears his name. Biography Townsend was born to a Japanese mother and an American father in Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii. His mother lived in Yamaguchi Prefecture, before immigrating to the United States and his father worked as a lawyer. He began boxing at age 14 and was undefeated in 12 fights as a professional, before losing his 13th bout the day before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor (December 6, 1941). Ophthalmoparesis refers to weakness (-paresis) or paralysis (-plegia) of one or more extraocular muscles which are responsible for eye movements. It is a physical finding in certain neurologic, ophthalmologic, and endocrine disease. Internal ophthalmoplegia means involvement limited to the pupillary sphincter and ciliary muscle. External ophthalmoplegia refers to involvement of only the extraocular muscles. Complete ophthalmoplegia indicates involvement of both. A split decision (SD) is a winning criterion in boxing, most commonly in full-contact combat sports, in which two of the three judges score one particular competitor as the winner, while the third judge scores for the other competitor.
