Kitchen Motors
Kitchen Motors is an Iceland based think tank, record label and an art collective specializing in instigating collaborations and putting on concerts, exhibitions, performances, chamber operas, producing films, books and radio shows. Kitchen Motors is known for producing collaborations between artists from different disciplines and in finding common ground where artists from often very diverse backgrounds can work together. The founders and main architects are Kristín Björk Kristjánsdóttir, Jóhann Jóhannsson and Hilmar Jensson. Sjón frequently collaborates with the singer Björk and has performed with The Sugarcubes as Johnny Triumph. His works have been translated into 30 languages. Early life Born in Reykjavík, Iceland, Sjón grew up in the city's Breiðholt district, where he lived with his mother. ''Kitchen Motors Family Album'' (Icelandic: ''Fjölskyldualbúm Tilraunaeldhússinsis'') a compilation album released in 2006. It came into being two years after the celebration of Kitchen Motors' 5 year anniversary on May 1, 2004. The album features mostly previously unreleased songs by the artists and bands who have worked with Kitchen Motors since it started in 1999. For some artists this marks their debut under a solo name, e.g. Sigur Rós front man and vocalist Jón Þór Birgisson contributes a track under the name Frakkur, while Múm band member Gunnar Örn Tynes makes a contribution under the name ''illi vill''. While ''Auxpan'' is contributing with a song called "Ugla" and Amiina (who participate with a song of their own) has composed a song of the same name they bear no resemblance to each other. The Hafler Trio
The Hafler Trio is an English conceptual, performance and sound art collaborative between Andrew M. McKenzie, the only permanent member, and guest sound artists, performers, and/or musicians. The project has seen the release of numerous albums and CDs in experimental musical styles ranging from electronic, cut-up, ambient, environmental soundscape, musique concrète, electro-acoustic, and audio-montage as cinema for the ears from 1982 to present, each of which use graphic design and text for contextual juxtaposition with the recordings, as well as having a diverse but concrete philosophical and sometimes quasi-religious framework to place them in. Pan Sonic
Pan Sonic was a Finnish electronic music group founded in Turku in 1993. The group consisted of Mika Vainio, Ilpo Väisänen, and Sami Salo. Salo left in 1996 leaving Pan Sonic a duo. The group was originally named Panasonic until 1998. In December 2009, it was announced that Pan Sonic would disband after their concerts that month. Their final album, ''Gravitoni'', was released by Blast First Petite in May 2010. ''Oksastus'', a live album recorded in 2009, was released in 2014. Music Pan Sonic cite their main influences from the early 1980s, with industrial acts like Throbbing Gristle, Einstürzende Neubauten and Suicide to reggae, hip-hop and dub. Múm (stylized in lowercase) () is an Icelandic indietronica band whose music is characterized by soft vocals, electronic glitch beats and effects, and a variety of traditional and unconventional instruments. History The band was formed in 1997 by original members Gunnar Örn Tynes and Örvar Þóreyjarson Smárason, who were joined by twin sisters Gyða and Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir. According to Kristín, the band's name was not intended to mean anything. Gyða left the band to return to her studies after the release of ''Finally We Are No One''. Apparat Organ Quartet
Apparat Organ Quartet was founded in 1999 in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is a band that originally included the musicians Hörður Bragason, Músikvatur, Úlfur Eldjárn and Jóhann Jóhannsson. They were soon joined by drummer Þorvaldur Gröndal, replaced in 2001 by Arnar Geir Ómarsson, drummer of the Icelandic rock band HAM. Lacking the time to dedicate himself to the group because of his solo projects, Jóhann Jóhannsson left the band in 2012; he died in February 2018.
