Qilin
The qilin (; ) is a legendary hooved chimerical creature that appears in Chinese mythology, and is said to appear with the imminent arrival or passing of a sage or illustrious ruler. Qilin are a specific type of the mythological family of one-horned beasts. The qilin also appears in the mythologies of other cultures, such as Japanese and Korean mythology, where it is known as the kirin, and Vietnamese mythology, where it is known as the kỳ lân. Origins Earliest mention of this mythical horned beast is in the poem included in the Classic of Poetry (11th - 7th c. BCE). Taikyoku Shogi
is the largest known variant of shogi (Japanese chess). The game was created around the mid-16th century (presumably by priests) and is based on earlier large board shogi games. Before the rediscovery of taikyoku shogi in 1997, tai shogi was believed to be the largest playable chess variant ever. It has not been shown that taikyoku shogi was ever widely played. There are only two sets of restored taikyoku shogi pieces and one of them is held at Osaka University of Commerce. One game may be played over several long sessions and require each player to make over a thousand moves. Because the game was found only recently after centuries of obscurity, it is difficult to say exactly what all the rules were. is a 2012 Japanese film directed by Nobuhiro Doi. Plot A man's body is found under the statue of a winged kirin in the Nihombashi area of Tokyo. – literally "racing cycle" – is a form of motor-paced cycle racing in which track cyclists sprint for victory following a speed-controlled start behind a motorized or non-motorized pacer. It was developed in Japan around 1948 for gambling purposes and became an official event at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Riders use brakeless fixed-gear bicycles. Races are typically long: 6 laps on a track, 4 laps on a track, or 4 laps on a track. Lots are drawn to determine starting positions for the sprint riders behind the pacer, which is usually a motorcycle, but can be a derny, electric bicycle or tandem bicycle. Kirin Narayan (born November 1959) is an Indian-born American anthropologist, folklorist and writer. Early life, education, and career Narayan is the daughter of Narayan Ramji Contractor, a civil engineer from Nashik, and Didi Contractor, Didi Kinzinger, a German-American "artist, decorator, and builder of sustainable housing". Narayan was born in Mumbai, Bombay, attended school in India and came to the United States in 1976. Narayan received a Bachelor of Arts, BA in creative writing from Sarah Lawrence College and went on to post-graduate studies in anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley, receiving her Doctor of Philosophy, PhD in 1987. She taught anthropology and South Asian studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. (15 January 1943 – 15 September 2018) was a Japanese actress for Japanese cinema and television. Biography Kiki was born on January 15, 1943, in Kanda, Tokyo. Her father was a master of the ''biwa'' lute and a former police officer. Her mother owned a cafe in Jinbōchō, Tokyo and a restaurant in Noge, Yokohama, the latter being Kiki's maternal parents' home. Ivica Kirin
Ivica Kirin () (born 14 June 1970) is a Croatian politician who was the interior minister of Croatia from 2005 to 2008. He resigned as interior minister on 29 December 2007 after being pictured with Mladen Markač on a boar hunt. Markač was on parole from the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and was not permitted to leave his house as a condition of his parole. Kirin, as interior minister, was responsible for ensuring Markač fulfilled his parole conditions. Career Kirin received his degree in Geotechnical engineering from the Geotechnical Engineering Faculty in Varaždin in 1994. He went on to work for a geotechnical engineering firm the following year.
