Kirara (manga)
''Kirara'' is a manga series by Toshiki Yui first published in 1993 by Shueisha. It was later adapted as an original video animation (OVA) in 2000. It was licensed in French by Panini Comics. Plot Kirara Imai is a young woman who, running late for her wedding, speeds in her car and dies in a car accident. Without understanding why, she finds herself transported eight years into the past, as a ghost. Kirara keeps her appearance, but can move through the air and can pass through walls at will. Kirara finds Kompei, her future fiancé, and the Kirara of that time, who at that point are not a couple yet. The ghost Kirara cannot accept her separation from Kompei and tries to keep him to herself, at the expense of her past self. Toshiki Yui
is a Japanese seinen manga artist born in 1956 in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. Some of his early work was published under the name . He has been publishing since 1986. Yui is known for his computer-assisted drawings, manga, and web-images of pretty and sexy girls (bishōjo). He specializes in romantic comedies, sometimes supernatural and often sexually explicit, about these girls and their male and female friends. Three of his works have been translated into English, ''Misty Girl Extreme'', ''Hot Tails'', and ''Wingding Orgy''. Writing about ''Kagome, Kagome'', the French manga dictionary ''Dicomanga'' pointed to Yui's large usage of computer software which gives a particular yet slightly icy tone to his universe. Also writing about ''Kagome, Kagome'', SplashComics noted that Yui used the technique of using photographs as backgrounds. ''The Anime Encyclopedia: A Guide to Japanese Animation Since 1917'' is a 2001 encyclopedia written by Jonathan Clements and Helen McCarthy. It was published in 2001 by Stone Bridge Press in the United States, and a "revised and expanded" edition was released in 2006. In the United Kingdom, it was published by Titan Books. The third edition was released on 3 March 2015 with the subtitle of ''A Century of Japanese Animation''. It gives an overview of most of the famous anime works since 1917. Reception Anime News Network's George Phillips commends the encyclopaedia for "In-depth analysis of several major series, and discussions on hundreds of anime series rarely (if ever) heard of in the West" but criticises it for titles that "aren't listed under the names you suspect; can be quite confusing at first". Tenchi Muyo!
is a Japanese anime, light novel and manga franchise. The original series began with a six-episode OVA called created by Masaki Kajishima and directed by Hiroki Hayashi, and released in Japan on September 25, 1992. The series was released by Pioneer LDC in the United Kingdom in 1994. As its popularity grew, it spurred a seventh episode titled ''Tenchi Muyo! Special: The Night Before the Carnival'' (also known as the ''Tenchi Special'') and a stand-alone ''Tenchi Muyo! Mihoshi Special''. A second OVA series was directed by Kenichi Yatagai that was released in 1994, and a third OVA series, also directed by Yatagai, was released in 2003. A fourth OVA series was produced in Japan, with the first collection released on November 30, 2016. Panchira
is a Japanese word referring to a brief glimpse of a woman's underwear. The term carries risqué connotations similar to the word ' upskirt' in English. In anime and manga, ''panchira'' usually refers to a panty-shot, a visual convention used extensively by Japanese artists and animators since the early 1960s. According to Japanese sources, the convention probably started with Machiko Hasegawa's popular comic strip ''Sazae-san'', whose character designs for Wakame Isono incorporated an improbably brief hemline. The practice was later transferred to animation when Osamu Tezuka's ''Astro Boy'' was adapted for television in 1963. Confined mainly to harmless children's series throughout the remainder of the decade, panchira took on more overtly fetishistic elements during the early seventies. OVA titles were originally made available on VHS, later becoming more popular on LaserDisc and eventually DVD. Starting in 2008, the term OAD (original animation DVD) began to refer to DVD releases published bundled with their source-material manga.
