The Kinston Eagles were an unaffiliated Minor League Baseball team of the Virginia League. They were located in Kinston, North Carolina. The team played its home games at West End Park, which opened in 1921. Established in 1925, the Eagles played through the 1927 season. The Eagles played in 415 regular season games and compiled a win–loss record of 177–238. Dozens of men played for the Eagles including Baseball Hall of Fame member Rick Ferrell. The Kinston Eagles were a minor league baseball team based in Kinston, North Carolina. In 1928 and 1929, the Eagles played as members of the six–team, Class D level Eastern Carolina League. The 1927 Kinston Eagles of the Class B level Virginia League immediately preceded the 1928 team. The 1934 Kinston Eagles resumed play as members of the Class D level Coastal Plain League. The Eastern Carolina League was a minor league baseball affiliation which operated in the Eastern part of North Carolina. The league had two distinct periods of operation: 1908 to 1910 and a revival of the league in 1928 and 1929. It was classified as a Class D level league. The most famous person to play in the league was Jim Thorpe, considered by some the greatest athlete of the twentieth century. The Kinston Eagles were a Minor League Baseball team of the Coastal Plain League. They were located in Kinston, North Carolina. The Coastal Plain League was a Minor league baseball affiliated circuit which, except for the war years (1942–1945), operated in North Carolina between 1937 and 1952. It was classified as a "D" league. It grew out of a semi-pro league that operated from 1935 to 1936 under the same Coastal Plain League name. Kinston Eagles (1956–1957)
The Wilson Tobs were a minor league baseball club based in Wilson, North Carolina and played periodically between 1908 and 1973. The Tobs nickname was a shortened form of the word "tobacconists". From 1908 to 1910, the team was officially known as the Wilson Tobacconists and played in the Eastern Carolina League. The club won the league's championship in 1909 and they were in the championship series in 1908, when play was suspended due to a tropical storm. They then next spent eight seasons in the Virginia League. During the 1920–1922 and 1924–1927 seasons the team was known as the Wilson Bugs. They won the Virginia League championship in 1922 and 1923. The Kinston Expos were a Minor League Baseball team of the Carolina League (CL), and the High-A affiliate of the Montreal Expos. They were located in Kinston, North Carolina, and were named for their parent club. The team played its home games at Grainger Stadium, which opened in 1949 and holds 4,100 fans. Established in 1962, the Expos played through the 1974 season. The franchise folded following that season. Kinston has served as a farm club for eleven different major league franchises and one minor league club. Professional baseball dates back to a 1908 squad in the Eastern Carolina League. The Kinston Indians were a Minor League Baseball team of the Carolina League (CL) located in Kinston, North Carolina, from 1978 to 2011. They played their home games at Grainger Stadium, which opened in 1949. The team began play in 1978 as the Kinston Eagles, borrowing their name from the Kinston Eagles (Virginia League), city's first team of the same name dating back to 1925. They became an affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays in 1979 and rebranded as the Kinston Blue Jays in 1982. Kinston reverted to the Eagles moniker in 1986 after the Toronto affiliation ended and became the Kinston Indians upon partnering with the Cleveland Indians in 1987.
