Kingstone, South Yorkshire
Kingstone is a small residential neighbourhood in Barnsley, located on the south-western side of Barnsley between Broadway and Park Road. Barnsley Central fire station and the recently demolished The Kingstone School are both located in the Kingstone area. The local St Edward the Confessor's church, built between 1900 and 1902 in the Gothic revival style, is a Grade II listed building. Barnsley
Barnsley () is a market town in South Yorkshire, England. As the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and the fourth largest settlement in South Yorkshire. In Barnsley, the population was 96,888 while the wider Borough has seen an increase of 5.8%, from 231,200 in 2011 census to 244,600 in 2021 census. Historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is located between the cities of Sheffield, Manchester, Doncaster, Wakefield, and Leeds. The larger towns of Rotherham and Huddersfield are nearby. Barnsley's former industries include linen, coal mining, glassmaking and textiles. These declined in the 20th century, but Barnsley's culture is rooted in its industrial heritage and it has a tradition of brass bands, originally created as social clubs by its mining communities. The Kingstone School
Kingstone School was a secondary school located in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. Founded in 1987, the school provided secondary education to pupils aged 11–16. It had a capacity of approximately 1,500, making it one of the largest schools in the area. In September 1987, Kingstone was formed by the amalgamation of Broadway Grammar School with adjacent Charter Comprehensive during the restructure of the British education system. In September 2012 it amalgamated with Holgate School to form Horizon Community College based at a new site on Dodworth road. The Kingstone School buildings were demolished in late 2012 to make way for a housing development. Management The Head Teacher from 2003 to 2011 was Matthew Milburn, who succeeded the original head of the school David J. Richards in September 2003. Kingstone is a ward in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. The ward contains eight listed buildings that are recorded in the National Heritage List for England. Of these, one is listed at Grade II*, the middle of the three grades, and the others are at Grade II, the lowest grade. The ward is to the southwest of the centre of Barnsley, and is residential. It contains Locke Park, with three listed buildings, a statue, a tower and a bandstand.
