Kingston is a town and suburb in the City of Logan, Queensland, Australia. In the , Kingston had a population of 10,539 people. Geography Kingston is a predominantly residential suburb, with a low mix of industrial, commercial and retail areas. The suburb is bounded in the south by Scrubby Creek, a tributary of the Logan River. It is the home of the Kingston Butter Factory. Kingston was also the site of an environmental disaster similar to Love Canal in Niagara Falls in the United States. History The township was named Kingston in 1890 Charles and Harriet Kingston, who were residents of the district in the late nineteenth century. Like a number of other Logan City suburbs Kingston was once part of the Shire of Tingalpa. Dairying grew in importance in the area from the 1890s and in 1906 a meeting was held in Beenleigh to form a co-operative butter factory locally. Love Canal
Love Canal is a neighborhood in Niagara Falls, New York, United States, infamous as the location of a landfill that became the site of an enormous environmental disaster in the 1970s. Decades of dumping toxic chemicals harmed the health of hundreds of residents; the area was cleaned up over the course of 21 years in a Superfund operation. In 1890, Love Canal was created as a model planned community, but was only partially developed. In the 1920s, the canal became a dump site for municipal refuse for the city of Niagara Falls. During the 1940s, the canal was purchased by Hooker Chemical Company, which used the site to dump of chemical byproducts from the manufacturing of dyes, perfumes, and solvents for rubber and synthetic resins. Browns Plains is a suburb in the City of Logan, Queensland, Australia. In the , Browns Plains had a population of 6,309 people. Browns Plains is generally used as a name for both the Browns Plains suburb and the former estates which all utilise the 4118 Postcode Hillcrest, Forestdale, Regents Park and Heritage Park. Val Bird
Valmond James "Val" Bird (14 May 1928 – 19 August 2005) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Bird was born at Ingham, Queensland, the son of Walter James Bird and his wife Ruth Elizabeth (née Thornton). He was educated at Ingham State School and after leaving he was a representative for the Golden Fleece Oil Company. He was also the secretary and industrial officer for the Ayr District Canegrowers Executive. On 14 May 1955 Bird married Valma Jean Burns (divorced 1998) and together had three daughters. After he had serious fall in 2001 which left in a coma from which he was not expected to emerge, his daughters discovered they had another sister that Bird fathered in his teen years. Logan City is a local government area situated within the south of the Brisbane metropolitan area in South East Queensland, Australia. Kingston Butter Factory
The Kingston Butter Factory is a community arts centre in Kingston, Queensland, Australia. It is located adjacent to the Kingston railway station. The factory underpinned the local dairying industry for six decades. It is currently closed for redevelopment. Original plans for an innovation hub were scrapped. The new plans include an outdoor staged area capable of holding 5,000 people. A co-operative and historical society has temporarily relocated off-site.
