Kings Of Rapa Nui
Easter Island was traditionally ruled by a monarchy, with a king as its leader. First paramount chief The legendary, first chief of Easter Island is said to have been Hotu Matuꞌa, whose arrival has been dated in the 4th, 6th or 9th century AD. Legend insists that this man was the chief of a tribe that lived on Marae Renga. The Marae Renga is said to have existed in a place known as the "Hiva region". Some books suggest that the Hiva region was an area in the Marquesas Islands, but today, it is believed that the ancestral land of the Easter Islanders would have been located in the Pitcairn Mangareva intercultural zone. Some versions of the story claim that internal conflicts drove Hotu Matuꞌa to sail with his tribe for new land, while others say a natural disaster (possibly a tidal wave) caused the tribe to flee. Anakena
Anakena is a white coral sand beach in Rapa Nui National Park on Rapa Nui (Easter Island), a Chilean island in the Pacific Ocean. Anakena has two ahus; Ahu-Ature has a single moai and Ahu Nao-Nao has seven, two of which have deteriorated. It also has a palm grove and a car park. Anakena is unusual for Easter Island in that it is one of only two small sandy beaches in an otherwise rocky coastline. Legend and History According to island oral traditions, Anakena was the landing place of Hotu Matu'a, a Polynesian chief who led a two-canoe settlement party here and founded the first settlement on Rapa Nui. It was later a ceremonial centre where islanders read from Rongorongo boards. Valentino Riroroko Tuki
Valentino Riroroko Tuki (13 February 1932 — 29 July 2017) was a claimant to the Rapa Nui throne of Easter Island. He was the grandson of the last King Simeón Riro Kāinga, who died in 1899 and belonged to the Miru clan, descendents of the founder and first Ariki Mau of Rapa Nui, the legendary Hotu Matua. Biography Riroroko was born on 13 February 1932 in Easter Island. He was the son of Juan Riroroko, the youngest son of Riro Kāinga, and Luisa Tuki. He married Andrea Servia in 1953. As eldest grandson of the last King of Rapa Nui, the title belonged to Jacobo Riroroko, who being of old age and bedridden with an illness, passed it to his younger brother Valentino Riroroko. Moisés Tuʻu Hereveri
Moisés Jacob Tu‘u Hereveri ( – 3 September 1925) was elected ''‘ariki'' (king) of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) from 1901 until 1902. He was the last Rapa Nui to claim the traditional kingship in the early 20th-century. However, he is not remembered as the last king instead his predecessor Riro Kāinga is generally regarded as the last king, although neither held much power. Variation of his family name included Hereveri, Here Veri, Veri-Veri, Beri-Beri, Tueri-Beri, Tueriveri, or Tueriveri. Enrique Ika
Enrique Ika a Tuʻu Hati ( – after 1900) was elected ''‘ariki'' (king) of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) in 1900 and led a failed rebellion. He was one of the last Rapa Nui to claim the traditional kingship in the early 20th-century. However, he is not remembered as the last king instead his predecessor Riro Kāinga is generally regarded as the last king, although neither held much power. Atamu Tekena
Atamu Tekena or Atamu te Kena, full name Atamu Maurata Te Kena ʻAo Tahi (c. 1850 – August 1892) was the penultimate ‘Ariki or King of Rapa Nui (i.e. Easter Island) from 1883 until his death. He was appointed as the ruler in 1883 by the French Picpus missionaries in the island to represent their interest after a two decade interval in the native kingship caused by the disruptions of Westernization. Although a member of the Miru clan, traditionally associated with the native kingship, he was not a royal of the traditional patrilineal line of kings.
