''King of Hearts'' is a studio album by American rapper and producer Camu Tao, who died of lung cancer in 2008. It was released posthumously via Fat Possum Records and Definitive Jux on August 17, 2010. Critical reception At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, ''King of Hearts'' received an average score of 71% based on 6 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Josh Langhoff of '' PopMatters'' gave the album 6 stars out of 10, describing it as "the sound of Camu aoreaching out, trying to connect with people while grappling with the most personal elements of his life." Camu Tao
Tero Smith (June 26, 1977 – May 25, 2008), better known by his stage name Camu Tao, was an American rapper, singer, and producer. Early life Tao was born Tero Smith in Columbus, Ohio, on June 26, 1977. Career Tao was signed to Definitive Jux. He was a member of several groups: S.A. Smash, The Weathermen, Central Services (with El-P), and the music collective Cardboard City. He was also part of the MHz crew with Copywrite, RJD2, Jakki tha Motamouth, and Tage Future. Partnering with Cage to form Nighthawks, the two crafted an album during a single three-day creative session. Death Tao died of lung cancer at the age of 30 on May 25, 2008, two years after being diagnosed. Legacy At the time of his death, Tao was producing a song for Cage's '' I Never Knew You'' EP and working on his first solo album for Definitive Jux.
