King Neptune (film)
''King Neptune'' is a 1932 cartoon by Walt Disney, the second in the '' Silly Symphonies'' series produced in Technicolor. While '' Flowers and Trees'' was originally intended as a black and white cartoon, ''King Neptune'' was meant to be in colors already from the start, and was able to take full advantage of this. While the film is included in the 1980s VHS release of ''Silly Symphonies'' and the Walt Disney Treasures DVD, it was not selected for the Platinum Edition DVD collection, because of mermaid nudity and heavy drinking (as the film was targeting adult audiences). While the mermaids lack anatomical detail, they may be considered inappropriate for a modern audience. Plot King Neptune is holding court at the bottom of the ocean, being entertained by his various sea creature subjects. Burton F. Gillett (October 15, 1891 – December 28, 1971) was a Film director, director of animation, animated films. He is noted for his Silly Symphonies work for Walt Disney Pictures, Disney, particularly the 1932 short film ''Flowers and Trees'' and the 1933 short film ''Three Little Pigs (film), Three Little Pigs'', both of which were awarded the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film and both of which were selected for inclusion in the National Film Registry. Early life He was born in Elmira, New York. His animation career started around 1916 when he was employed by the International Film Service, an early animation studio under the ownership of William Randolph Hearst and the supervision of Gregory La Cava. ''Father Noah's Ark'' is a 1933 Walt Disney ''Silly Symphonies'' animated film. It is based on the story of Noah's Ark. The short's musical score is an adaptation of the first dance in Ludwig van Beethoven's ''12 Contredanses''. The cartoon was released on April 8, 1933. Plot The short begins with the building of the Ark. Father Noah makes the plans of the ark and gives commands to its construction. His sons, Ham, Shem and Japheth "build the ark from dawn to dark and make a lot of noise" with some help from the animals, while their wives load up food supplies to see them through the flood and Noah's wife is washing clothes. Eventually, the storm rolls in and the animals are summoned, two-by-two, to the ark, purposely leaving two skunks behind. ''Victory Through Air Power'' is a 1943 American Technicolor animated documentary propaganda film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by United Artists on July 17, 1943. It is based on the 1942 book ''Victory Through Air Power'' by Alexander P. de Seversky. De Seversky appeared in the film, an unusual departure from the Disney animated feature films of the time. Edward H. Plumb, Paul J. Smith and Oliver Wallace were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Music Score of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture.
