King Blues
The King Blues are a British punk rock band from London credited for fusing punk and hip hop together with influences from ska and spoken word. Tariq Ali described the band's sounds as "rough, radical music that should unsettle the rulers of this country. A new generation of musicians are challenging war-monger politicians and their courtiers". Influences include Public Enemy, The Clash and The Specials. Lead singer Jonny "Itch" Fox describes the band's sound as 'rebel street music.' History The King Blues began as a solo project of Jonny "Itch" Fox on vocals and ukulele, the first The King Blues EP ''All Fall Down'' was recorded solo by itch who also played the music on it. The band later expanded to include a 2 acoustic guitarists and bassist, before again expanding to include two full-time percussion members. Ska Punk
Ska punk (also spelled ska-punk) is a fusion genre that mixes ska music and punk rock music together. (sometimes spelled skacore) is a subgenre of ska punk that mixes ska with hardcore punk. Early ska punk mixed both 2 tone and ska with hardcore punk. Ska punk tends to feature brass instruments, especially horns such as trumpets, trombones and woodwind instruments like saxophones, making the genre distinct from other forms of punk rock. It is closely tied to third wave ska which reached its zenith in the mid-1990s. Before ska punk began, many ska bands and punk rock bands performed on the same bills together and performed to the same audiences. Phil Clifton
Phil Clifton is a British television and Sony nominated radio presenter, appearing on MTV (UK and Ireland), Radio X and formerly Channel 4. Career Radio Phil began presenting on Xfm London and Xfm Manchester in 2008. He was later nominated for a ' Sony Rising Star award' for his work on the station. Phil joined Radio X, right across the UK as part of a national relaunch for the station, hosting the evening show on weekdays from 19:00-22:00. He left Radio X in early 2017. Phil later appeared on Hits Radio briefly and joined the presenting team of Virgin Radio UK PRIDE in 2021. Pete Donaldson
Peter Donaldson (born 30 April 1981) is an English podcaster and radio presenter. He featured on the Danny Wallace Saturday show on Xfm, and the Alex Zane breakfast show and is currently one of the presenters on The Football Ramble, Wrestle Me and The Luke and Pete Show podcasts. Donaldson has cohosted the Abroad in Japan podcast with Chris Broad since 2018. Career Donaldson moved to London in 2003 after studying Multimedia Media Design at University. Mike Davies (born August 8, 1978) is an American firefighter and former disc jockey on BBC Radio 1 in the United Kingdom. Early life Davies was born in Culver City, California on August 8, 1978 to British parents, where he lived until he left high school, aged 19. As a boy he spent a lot of time in the UK, to which he attributed his love for music. In 1998, aged 19 years old, he moved to Santa Barbara, California where he studied graphic design. Robert John Gorham (born 24 June 1973 in Portsmouth, Hampshire), known by the pseudonym Rob da Bank, is an English DJ and co-founder of music festivals Bestival, originally on the Isle of Wight and now moved to Lulworth, Dorset and Camp Bestival, also in Lulworth. He presented a show on BBC Radio 1 which focused on promoting new left field music. Examples of artists featured on his show include Tipper, Moloko and a host of unsigned acts. What If Punk Never Happened
"What If Punk Never Happened" is a song recorded by English punk rock band The King Blues, and is the eleventh and final track on their second studio album '' Save the World. Get the Girl''. It is a 6-minute and 40-second spoken word song which tells a story of what a town would be like had they never discovered punk. The track was co-written by producer Peter Miles who recorded the backing track after Itch emailed him an mp3 of the rough draft of the original poem and Itch's final vocal was laid down a few weeks later during the final mixing sessions of the album. Despite its length and its lyrics which contain several expletives, the track has been played on BBC Radio 1 by Rob da Bank, Mike Davies, and as part of the "Versus" section of Zane Lowe's show. Dexys Midnight Runners (currently officially Dexys, their former nickname, styled without an apostrophe) are an English pop rock band from Birmingham, with soul influences, who achieved major commercial success in the early to mid-1980s.
