The ''Kincardine News'' is the premier news publication for the Municipality of Kincardine, Ontario, including the communities of Kincardine, Tiverton, Inverhuron, Bervie, Glammis and Armow, as well as serving the neighbouring Huron-Kinloss communities of Ripley and Point Clark. ''Kincardine News'' is a member of the Ontario Community Newspapers Association (OCNA) and is owned by Postmedia. It received Blue Ribbons in 2006 and 2007. Tabloid (newspaper Format)
A tabloid is a newspaper with a compact page size smaller than broadsheet. There is no standard size for this newspaper format. Etymology The word ''tabloid'' comes from the name given by the London-based pharmaceutical company Burroughs Wellcome & Co. to the compressed tablets they marketed as "Tabloid" pills in the late 1880s. The connotation of ''tabloid'' was soon applied to other small compressed items. A 1902 item in London's ''Westminster Gazette'' noted, "The proprietor intends to give in tabloid form all the news printed by other journals." Thus ''tabloid journalism'' in 1901, originally meant a paper that condensed stories into a simplified, easily absorbed format. The term preceded the 1918 reference to smaller sheet newspapers that contained the condensed stories. Kincardine, Ontario
Kincardine ( ) is a municipality located on the shores of Lake Huron in Bruce County in the province of Ontario, Canada. The current municipality was created in 1999 by the amalgamation of the Town of Kincardine, the Township of Kincardine, and the Township of Bruce. The municipality had a population of 11,389 in the Canada 2016 Census. Communities In addition to the main population centre of Kincardine itself (population 6,725), the municipality also contains the smaller communities of Armow, Baie du Dore, Bervie, Glammis, Inverhuron, Millarton, North Bruce, Tiverton, and Underwood. History In 1998, the Village of Tiverton lost its separate incorporation, and became part of the Township of Bruce. Tiverton, Ontario
Tiverton is a community in the Municipality of Kincardine, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. It is near the shore of Lake Huron on Highway 21 between Port Elgin and Kincardine. History The name of a town in Devon, England. It is said that Norman McInnis and the other petitioners, when applying for a post-office, suggested the name "St. Andrews." This the Department would not agree to, there being another post-office of that name. Of several names offered "Tiverton" was chosen, it being the name of the borough for which Lord Palmerston, the English Prime Minister, sat in Parliament, and this no doubt had something to do with the choice made. It was in the fall of 1850 that the primeval forest that covered the present site of Tiverton was entered by its first settler, Timothy Allan. Inverhuron, Ontario
Inverhuron is a community located in Bruce County within the Municipality of Kincardine in the Canadian province of Ontario. The community includes approximately 200 permanent residents and 400 seasonal cottagers. Inverhuron is located on the shore of Lake Huron, at the west end of County Road 15, just west of Highway 21 and the town of Tiverton. The village is located about halfway between Port Elgin and the town of Kincardine. History Inverhuron was first settled in the early 1840s. In 1851 Superintendent of Schools of Bruce County, William Gunn opened a general store and post office. Gunn quickly followed with a school and library. By the end of the decade Inverhuron boasted lime kilns, saw and grist mills, a quarry, numerous tradesmen including carpenters, and a blacksmith shop. Bervie, Ontario
Bervie is an unincorporated place and Compact Rural Community in the municipality of Kincardine, Bruce County in southwestern Ontario, Canada. It is located on Ontario Highway 9, and is on the Penetangore River, which flows to Lake Huron at the town centre of Kincardine. Bervie is home to several mechanical trade shops, previously including a masonry training centre for the local high school ( Kincardine & District Secondary School) that closed in 2014. It is surrounded in general by agricultural land. History The construction of the Durham road (Highway 9, Kincardine to Durham) through 1851 led to more settlements being established along its route. In 1853, a post-office named Bervie (named after Inverbervie, Kincardineshire, Scotland) was opened in geographic Kincardine Township on lot 53, concession 1, which gave its name to the locality. Huron-Kinloss
Huron-Kinloss is a township in the Canadian province of Ontario, located within Bruce County. The township had a population of 7,069 in the Canada 2016 Census. Huron-Kinloss is located in Western Ontario, on Lake Huron. It is relatively remote, particularly by the standards of densely populated Southern Ontario and remains a primarily rural region of farmland and woodlots. The lake shore is sparsely populated with the village of Point Clark at the south end and Boiler Beach at the north end, with a mixture of seasonal and permanent cottages along the shore in between. Lucknow and Ripley are the largest towns inland. Economically, the township depends heavily on agriculture, agricultural services and tourism. A number of residents work in Kincardine or Goderich, with the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station being the largest employer in the area. Point Clark
Point Clark is a lakefront cottage community on Lake Huron, in Ontario Canada. It is approximately 15 kilometres south of Kincardine and 40 kilometres north of Goderich. Main streets include Huron Road and Lake Range Road. Point Clark is served by Highway 21 (Ontario). It is a cottage town, and has a rare Imperial Tower style lighthouse. There is a sandy beach and a small harbour with a boat ramp. There are two streams or rivers that run into Lake Huron around Point Clark: Clark Creek and Pine River. There is a separate harbour in the mouth of the Pine River. Amberley is just outside and to the south of Point Clark and Lucknow is to the south-east of Point Clark.
