Stark, Kansas
Stark is a city in Neosho County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 69. History The first post office at Stark was established in January 1886. Stark was laid out and platted in 1888. It was named after Stark County, Illinois. The Kansas City Pacific Railroad built through Stark and maintained passenger and freight depots in the town. The rail line soon became the Kansas City Division of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad and is still active today as part of the Union Pacific Railroad. Erie, Kansas
Erie is a city in and the county seat of Neosho County, Kansas, United States, and situated in the valley of the Neosho River, about a mile Northeast of the river. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 1,047. History A settlement named "Erie", later referred to as "Old Erie" and "Beantown USA", was platted northwest of the present townsite, while another community, known as Crawfordsville, was started two miles northeast of the current site. In 1866, the proprietors of these two towns made a compromise to abandon the towns and combine with the settlement at the present Erie site. Four men gave 40 acres each, that butted together, out of their 160-acre shares, to create the city plat of Erie. These men were: David Bray, Luther Puckett, John Himmelwright and Peter Walter. Area Code 620
Area code 620 covers telephone exchanges in most of southern Kansas. It was created as the result of a split from 316 on February 3, 2001. The area code stretches across the southern half of the state, from the Colorado border in the west to the Missouri border in the east. It completely surrounds 316, which now only serves Wichita and its inner suburbs, making it one of the six pairs of "doughnut area codes" in the numbering plan. Permissive dialing of 316 across southern Kansas continued until November 3, 2001.
