Kim Rene Elverum Sorsell
Kim Rene Elverum Sorsell (born 6 October 1988) is a Norwegian ski jumper. He made his debut in the World Cup in December 2007 in Trondheim, where he finished 43rd. His first finished among the top 30 in the World Cup with a 22nd place from December 2008 in Trondheim, and among the top 20 with a 17th place in January 2009 in Sapporo. The 2009–10 season was more meagre, but in the 2010–11 World Cup opener he finished 24th in Lillehammer. Ski jumping is a winter sport in which competitors aim to achieve the farthest jump after sliding down on their skis from a specially designed curved ramp. Along with jump length, competitor's aerial style and other factors also affect the final score. Ski jumping was first contested in Norway in the late 19th century, and later spread through Europe and North America in the early 20th century. Along with cross-country skiing, it constitutes the traditional group of Nordic skiing disciplines. The ski jumping venue, commonly referred to as a ''hill'', consists of the jumping ramp (''in-run''), take-off table, and a landing hill. Each jump is evaluated according to the distance traveled and the style performed. The distance score is related to the construction point (also known as the ''K-point''), which is a line drawn in the landing area and serves as a "target" for the competitors to reach. The FIS Ski Jumping World Cup is the world's highest level of ski jumping and the FIS Ski Flying World Cup as the subdivisional part of the competition. It was founded by Torbjørn Yggeseth for the 1979/80 season and organized by the International Ski Federation. Women began competing during the 2011/12 season. The rounds are hosted primarily in Europe, with regular stops in Japan and rarely in North America. Granåsen is a ski jumping hill, located in Granåsen Ski Centre in Trondheim, Norway.
