Kim Ki-tai
Kim Ki-tai (Hangul: 김기태, Hanja: 金杞泰; born May 23, 1969) is a former South Korean baseball player who played for the Ssangbangwool Raiders, Samsung Lions and SK Wyverns and is a former manager of Kia Tigers in the Korea Baseball Organization. He is generally considered as the KBO's best-ever designated hitter. Career During his pro career, he was used primarily as a designated hitter, with occasional games at first base. As a full-time designated hitter, Kim won a home run title in and a batting title in . He is a four-time KBO League Golden Glove Award-winner as well. In , Kim was a member of the 2000 South Korean Olympic baseball team which won the bronze medal in the baseball tournament. Kim managed the LG Twins from 2012 to 2014. Baseball at the 2000 Summer Olympics was the third time an Olympic baseball tournament had been held as a full medal sport, and the ninth time it had been part of the Summer Olympic Games in any capacity. It was held in Sydney, Australia from 17 September through to the bronze and gold medal games on 27 September. Two venues were used for the Games: the Sydney Baseball Stadium and Blacktown Olympic Park. For the first time in Olympic competition, professional baseball players were eligible to participate, though no active players from Major League Baseball were available. The Korean Series is the final championship series of the KBO League. It has been held since the KBO League's first season in and is the final series of the post-season play-offs. From to 2013, the winner of the Korean Series went on to play in the Asia Series. The teams finishing in third and fourth place in the regular season face each other in the first round of the play-offs. The winner of the first round faces the team that finished in second place during the regular season, and the winner of that round faces the team that finished in first place for the championship in the Korean Series. South Korea National Baseball Team
The South Korean national baseball team ( ko, 대한민국 야구 국가대표팀) is the national baseball team of South Korea. It won the Baseball World Cup in 1982, and participated in the Summer Olympic Games of 1984, 1988, 1996, and 2000. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, it won the gold medal in a final victory against Cuba. In baseball, a home run (abbreviated HR) is scored when the ball is hit in such a way that the batter is able to circle the bases and reach home plate safely in one play without any errors being committed by the defensive team. A first baseman, abbreviated 1B, is the player on a baseball or softball team who fields the area nearest first base, the first of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run.
