Kim Jae-bak
Kim Jae-bak (Hangul: 김재박; born May 23, 1954, in Seoul, South Korea) is a South Korean former professional baseball shortstop and manager. Nicknamed the "Ground Fox," he batted and threw right-handed. He played ten seasons in the KBO League, for the MBC Cheongryong/LG Twins from 1982 to 1991, and for the Pacific Dolphins in 1992. As manager of the Hyundai Unicorns from 1996 to 2006, he guided the team to four Korean Series championships. Biography Kim was born in Seoul, and attended Daegwang High School and Yeungnam University, growing to a height of 5'7" and 170 lbs. Playing career Amateur career Kim was a legendary amateur player, starting in high school, when his Daegwang High School team won the inaugural Bonghwang High School baseball tournament in 1971. Shortstop
Shortstop, abbreviated SS, is the baseball or softball fielding position between second and third base, which is considered to be among the most demanding defensive positions. Historically the position was assigned to defensive specialists who were typically poor at batting and were often placed at the bottom of the batting order. Today, shortstops are often able to hit well and many are placed at the top of the lineup. In the numbering system used by scorers to record defensive plays, the shortstop is assigned the number 6. Baseball World Cup
The Baseball World Cup was an international tournament where national baseball teams from around the world competed. It was sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation (IBAF). Along with the World Baseball Classic, it was one of two active tournaments considered by the IBAF to be a major world championship. The baseball tournament at the Summer Olympic Games was also considered a major world championship while baseball was an Olympic sport. Baseball At The 2006 Asian Games
Baseball was one of the many sports which was held at the 2006 Asian Games in Al-Rayyan, Qatar beginning on November 29, 2006. Six East Asia, East and Southeast Asian nations participated in the tournament. Chinese Taipei won its first ever baseball gold medal in the Asian Games when they mounted a ninth inning comeback against Japan in the final game of Round-robin tournament, round robin play. Haitai Tigers
Kia Tigers ( ko, KIA 타이거즈) are a South Korean professional baseball team founded in 1982 and based in the southwestern city of Gwangju. Until 2001, they were known as the Haitai Tigers. The Tigers are a members of the KBO League and are the most successful team in Korean baseball, having won the national Korean Series championship 11 times with a perfect 11–0 record. Their home stadium is Gwangju-Kia Champions Field in Gwangju. In baseball, a leadoff hitter is a batter who bats first in the lineup. It can also refer to any batter who bats first in any inning. Strategy Traditionally, the leadoff hitter has been utilized as a contact-oriented position. The leadoff hitter is usually tasked with being able to reach base at a proficient on-base percentage and generate runs for the team. Secondary goals for such a player include wearing down a pitcher's stamina and providing a dangerous presence along the basepaths to create more offensive opportunities. As a result, the prototypical leadoff hitter is small ball oriented, with elements such as contact ability, speed, patience, and occasionally defense elevated to an important level. 1982 Amateur World Series
The 1982 Amateur World Series was the 27th Amateur World Series (AWS), an international men's amateur baseball tournament. The tournament was sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation (which titled it the Baseball World Cup as of the 1988 tournament). In Korea, high school baseball (고등학교 야구) is played at a very high level by students who train year round. Yeungnam University is a private research university located in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang, South Korea.
