Killer Heels
Killer Heals (Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe) was a blockbuster exhibition that ran at the Brooklyn Museum from September 10, 2014 – March 1, 2015. The exhibition displayed high-heeled footwear, for men and women, as art objects. ''The New York Times'' called the exhibition, "mesmerizing, disturbing but undeniably consummate." The Museum extended the extremely popular show an additional 2 weeks beyond the scheduled closing date. The curator was Lisa Small, who also edited a well-received illustrated book on the topic, ''"Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe.'' Brooklyn Museum
The Brooklyn Museum is an art museum located in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. At , the museum is New York City's second largest and contains an art collection with around 1.5 million objects. High heels cause the legs to appear longer, make the wearer appear taller, and accentuate the calf muscle. There are many types of heels in varying colors, materials, styles, and heights. High heels have been used in various ways to communicate nationality, professional affiliation, gender, and social status. High heels have been important in the West. In early 17th century Europe, for example, high heels were a sign of masculinity and high social status. It wasn't until the end of the century that this trend spread to women's fashion.
