Kilkenny–Tipperary Hurling Rivalry
The Kilkenny-Tipperary rivalry is a hurling rivalry between Irish county teams Kilkenny and Tipperary, who first played each other in 1887. It is considered to be one of the biggest rivalries in Gaelic games. While Tipperary have the second highest number of Munster titles and Kilkenny are the standard bearers in Leinster, they are also two of the most successful teams in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, having won 61 championship titles between them to date. As of the completion of the 2016 season the sides have met 27 times in the hurling championship including meeting 20 times at the All Ireland final stage (Tipperary have won 11 of these finals compared to Kilkenny's 8 final wins with 1 draw). Kilkenny County Hurling Team
The Kilkenny county hurling team represents Kilkenny in hurling and is governed by Kilkenny GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship and the National Hurling League. The Munster GAA Hurling Senior Championship, known simply as the Munster Championship, is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition organised by the Munster GAA, Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in the province of Munster, and has been contested every year since the 1888 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship#Munster Senior Hurling Championship, 1888 championship. Paddy Riordan
Patrick J. Riordan (31 August 1871 - March 1941) was an Irish hurler who played as a forward for the Tipperary senior team. Born in Drombane, County Tipperary, Riordan first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-three when he first linked up with the Tipperary senior team. He made his debut during the 1894 championship. Riordan went on to play a key part for Tipperary, and won two All-Ireland medals and two Munster medals. At club level Riordan was a three-time championship medallist. He began his club career with Drombane before later joining Upperchurch–Drombane and Thurles. Riordan retired from inter-county hurling following the conclusion of the 1907 championship. Croke Park
Croke Park ( ga, Páirc an Chrócaigh, ) is a Gaelic games stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Named after Archbishop Thomas Croke, it is referred to as Croker by GAA fans and locals. It serves as both the principal national stadium of Ireland and headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Since 1891 the site has been used by the GAA to host Gaelic sports, including the annual All-Ireland in Gaelic football and hurling. A major expansion and redevelopment of the stadium ran from 1991 to 2005, raising capacity to its current 82,300 spectators. Thurles Sarsfields GAA
Thurles Sarsfields is a Tipperary GAA club which is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the "Mid-Tipperary" divisional competitions. The club is centred in the town of Thurles at Semple Stadium. The club was founded in 1881 and is the most honoured club in the history of the county championship with 36 County Titles.
