Kilkenny Premier Junior Hurling Championship
The J. J. Kavanagh & Sons Premier Junior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Kilkenny County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1905 for the third-tier hurling teams in the county of Kilkenny in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months with the county final currently being played at Nowlan Park in October. The prize for the winning team is the Bob Aylward Cup. The championship has always been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the series. The Kilkenny County Championship is an integral part of the wider Leinster GAA Junior Club Hurling Championship. The winners of the Kilkenny county final join the champions of the other hurling counties to contest the provincial championship. The title has been won at least once by fifty-six different clubs. 2022 Kilkenny Premier Junior Hurling Championship
The 2022 Kilkenny Premier Junior Hurling Championship was the inaugural staging of the Kilkenny Premier Junior Hurling Championship and the 112th staging overall of a championship for the junior-ranking hurling teams in Kilkenny. The championship draw took place on 27 February 2022. The championship ran from 17 September to 23 October 2022. The final was played on 23 October 2022 at UPMC Nowlan Park in Kilkenny, between Blacks and Whites and Windgap, in what was their first ever meeting in the final. Blacks and Whites won the match by 1-17 to 0-17 to claim their fourth championship title overall and a first title in 13 years. Piltown GAA
Piltown GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Piltown, County Kilkenny, Ireland. A Piltown GAA club was founded in 1887. Several versions existed until the modern club founded in 1953 following the advent of Parish Rule in Kilkenny. Piltown fields teams in Hurling, Gaelic Football, Camogie and Ladies' Gaelic Football at all ages from Under-8 to adult in each code. History Piltown GAA was formed in 1887, and went through many amalgamations until Parish Rule was introduced in the 1950s. The modern club was formed in 1953. Callan, County Kilkenny
Callan () is a town and civil parish in County Kilkenny in Ireland. Situated 16 km (10 mi) south of Kilkenny on the N76 road to Clonmel, it is near the border with County Tipperary. It is the second largest town in the county, and had a population of 2,475 at the 2016 census. Callan is the chief town of the barony of the same name. History and name Callan was founded by William the Marshal in 1207 and reputedly gets its name from the High King of Ireland, Niall Caille. It is reported that while at war with the Norsemen the High King arrived in Callan to find that its river was in flood. The King witnessed his servant trying to cross the river and being swept away by the fast-flowing current. The King, recorded in history as a man of action, seeing the impending disaster, impetuously urged his horse into the fast flowing river in a vain bid to save his servant, only to be also overcome and drowned by the torrent. Slieverue
Slieverue, officially Slieveroe, () is a village in South County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland. It is located in the historical barony of Ida. Despite the name, the land is relatively low-lying and fertile. Slieverue's population, as of the 2016 census, was 476. Geography The village lies alongside the main N25 road, some 5 km from Waterford City and 14 km from New Ross in County Wexford, near the point where the Rivers Barrow and Suir come together. Slieverue GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Slieverue, County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club fields teams in hurling and Gaelic football. History Slieverue is one of Kilkenny's oldest clubs, having affiliated in the GAA's foundation year in 1884. The club has operated in the junior ranks for much of its existence, however, it has had some success in the upper tiers. Slieverue's first major success was a Kilkenny IHC title in 1936. Galmoy () is a barony in the north western part of County Kilkenny, Ireland. It is one of 12 baronies in County Kilkenny. The size of the barony is . There are 12 civil parishes in Galmoy. While it is named after the village of Galmoy, today the chief town of the barony is Urlingford. Galmoy barony lies at the north-western corner of the county between Fassadinin to the east (whose chief town is Castlecomer), and Crannagh to the south (whose chief town is Freshford). Urlingford
Urlingford () is a town, as well as a civil parish within the barony of Galmoy. It is located in the north west of County Kilkenny, along the boundary with County Tipperary, in Leinster, Ireland. Access The town lies on the R639. The M8 motorway runs just west of the town, from which both Urlingford and nearby Johnstown are accessed via junction four. Emeralds GAA is a junior Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Urlingford, County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1972 and almost exclusively fields teams in hurling. They spent 14 seasons in intermediate grade in Kilkenny before being relegated in 2015 back to the junior grade. History In the early years of the 20th, century hurling was very strong in the parish of Urlingford with three teams competing. – Graine, Urlingford and Clomanta. Despite large competition, it was clear that a unified parish hurling team would provide a stronger and more capable force to compete against the larger parishes of the county.
