Kilcoy Shire Council
The Shire of Kilcoy was a local government area in South East Queensland, Australia, about northwest of Brisbane along the D'Aguilar Highway, not far from the Sunshine Coast. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1912 until its merger with the Shire of Esk to form the Somerset Region on 15 March 2008. Beef cattle is the predominant industry in the area, with other activities including dairying, small crops and aquaculture. History The area was originally incorporated as part of the Caboolture Division on 11 November 1879 under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879''. With the passage of the ''Local Authorities Act 1902'', Caboolture became a Shire on 31 March 1903. Somerset Region
The Somerset Region is a local government area located in the West Moreton region of South East Queensland, Australia, about northwest of Brisbane and centred on the town of Esk. It was created in 2008 from a merger of the Shire of Esk and the Shire of Kilcoy. It is commonly known as the Brisbane Valley, due to the Brisbane River which courses through the region, although significant parts of the region lie outside the hydrological Brisbane Valley itself. The Esk and Kilcoy Shires were amalgamated to consolidate the water catchments for the Wivenhoe and Somerset Dams. The Local Government Reform Commission identified that the long-term future of Somerset would be as a major water catchment for the SEQ region with farming being the main economic activity within a water catchment management regime. Winya, Queensland
Winya is a rural locality in the Somerset Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Winya had a population of 72 people. Geography Sandy Creeks marks a section of the eastern boundary and Kilcoy Creek aligns with some of the eastern border. In the south the locality protrudes into the waters of Somerset Dam when it is at full capacity. Kilcoy Weir straddles the boundary with Mount Kilcoy in the north. The D'Aguilar Highway passes through Winya. Kilcoy Airfield is in the south of locality on Kennedys Road (). History Kilcoy Homestead was established in Winya in the 1850s. Settlement in the area had begun as early as 1841. Winya State School opened in 1918 and closed in 1960. Villeneuve, Queensland
Villeneuve is a rural town and locality in the Somerset Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Villeneuve had a population of 179 people. Geography A section of the northern boundary of Villeneuve follows the D'Aguilar Highway. History The town is named after the railway station, which in turn took its name from Frank Villeneuve Nicholson, owner of the property Villeneuve. Farming was established at Villeneuve in the late 1870s. Villeneuve Provisional School opened on 30 May 1887 with a new building erected in 1888 which it shared with the Anglican Church. In 1902, it was renamed West Vale Provisional School. It was temporarily closed between September 1907 and July 1908 due to poor student numbers. It closed permanently in February 1910. Monsildale is a rural locality in the Somerset Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Monsildale had a population of 21 people. History The name ''Monsildale'' comes from the name of pastoral run used by David Cannon McConnel (1818-1885), which was named after the Derbyshire valley which contained Cressbrook, his home town. Monsildale Provisional School opened on 2 June 1913. In 1923, the school was relocated and renamed Foxlowe Provisional School. Then on 25 June 1926 it was renamed Jimna Provisional School and on 1 October 1934 became Jimna State School. It was mothballed in 2006 and officially closed on 31 December 2009. Louisavale Provisional School opened on 11 November 1915. It closed on closed on 1 Feb 1934 due to low student numbers, but reopened on 25 July 1934. It closed permanently on 9 September 1940. Hazeldean is a rural locality in the Somerset Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Hazeldean had a population of 262 people. Geography Lake Somerset occupies the east of the locality. Lake Somerset is the reservoir created by the Somerset Dam impounding the Stanley River. The western part of the locality is elevated and remains mostly vegetated. Glenfern, Queensland
Glenfern is a rural locality in the Somerset Region, Queensland, Australia. In the Glenfern had a population of 10 people. Geography The D'Aguilar Highway marks a section of the northern boundary. The southern boundary is roughly aligned with the Stanley River, however when the Somerset Dam is full, the dam's waters cover Glenfern's southern extent. Sandy Creek flows from the north into the dam in this area () and forms the north-eastern boundary of the locality. The land is used for farming. History In January 1880, Alexander McPherson obtained a country publican's licence to operate the Glenfern Hotel. The Glenfern Hotel was located east of Kilcoy on the road to Woodford (now the D'Aguilar Highway).
