Kihelkonna Parish
Kihelkonna Parish was a municipality in Saare County, Estonia. The parish included the islands named Aherahu, Juksirahu, Kalarahu, Käkirahu, Laasirahu, Loonalaid, Maturahu, Mihklirahu, Noogimaa, Nootamaa, Ojurahu, Salava, Uus-Nootamaa, Vaika islands, Vesiloo, and Vilsandi, and the peninsula (formerly an island) of Harilaid. The municipality has a population of 891 (as of 1 January 2006) and covers an area of 245.94 km2. During the administrative-territorial reform in 2017, all 12 municipalities on the island Saaremaa were merged into a single municipality – Saaremaa Parish. Municipalities Of Estonia
A municipality ( et, omavalitsus, plural ) is the smallest administrative subdivision of Estonia. Each municipality is a unit of self-government with its representative and executive bodies. The municipalities in Estonia cover the entire territory of the country. Nootamaa
Nootamaa is a small, uninhabited island in the Baltic Sea belonging to the country of Estonia. It marks the westernmost part of Estonia's territorial boundary. Nootamaa has an area of 59,000 sq metres and lies off the extreme western coast of the island of Saaremaa. Together with some other forty islands and islets, it makes up the Vilsandi National Park - an area of ecological protection for birds. Saaremaa Parish
Saaremaa Municipality, also known as Saaremaa Rural Municipality ( et, Saaremaa vald), is a municipality in Saare County in western Estonia. It is the largest municipality in Estonia by land area. The administrative centre of the municipality is its only town Kuressaare. It is one of three parishes comprising the county, along with Muhu and Ruhnu Parish. Harilaid
Harilaid Peninsula is a peninsula on the northwest coast of the island of Saaremaa in Estonia. It should not be confused with the islet of Harilaid which lies between the islands of Vormsi and Hiiumaa. Harilaid covers an area of and is low lying (the highest elevation is ). It is connected to the mainland by a wide neck of land, and was a separate island until the end of the 17th century. Large numbers of birds stop on Harilaid on their migration route, and there is a resting site of grey seals on the west coast. There is a large pine plantation on the peninsula, started in the 1970s and inhabited by elk and wild boar. The peninsula was added to the Vilsandi National Park in 1993. There is no record of a settled population on the peninsula. The Kiipsaare Lighthouse was built at the tip of the peninsula in 1933. Vilsandi
The island of Vilsandi, Saaremaa Parish, Saare County, Estonia is located in the Baltic Sea. It covers an area of some 9 square km and is the westernmost populated island in Estonia. The surrounding waters are shallow and rocky and many ships travelling the Baltic have perished nearby. The island of Vilsandi can be reached by boat, by truck having suitable clearance or on foot by wading from Saaremaa. Much of the island is now part of Vilsandi National Park, which grew from a bird reserve founded in 1910. It is a highly sensitive ecosystem due to the use of the area by many migratory birds as a breeding and nesting ground. Hunting is absolutely prohibited. This park is a popular tourist destination not only for local Estonians, but also people of Finland who are visiting Estonia in greater and greater numbers. Vesiloo is a small, uninhabited Estonian island in the Baltic Sea. Its coordinates are . Vesiloo lies just off the northern coast of the island of Vilsandi. The water between the two islands is shallow enough to enable access to each by wading through the sea.
