Kiel Center
Kiel () is the capital and most populous city in the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein, with a population of 246,243 (2021). Kiel lies approximately north of Hamburg. Due to its geographic location in the southeast of the Jutland peninsula on the southwestern shore of the Baltic Sea, Kiel has become one of Germany's major maritime centres, known for a variety of international sailing events, including the annual Kiel Week, which is the biggest sailing event in the world. Kiel is also known for the Kiel Mutiny, when sailors refused to board their vessels in protest against Germany's further participation in World War I, resulting in the abdication of the Kaiser and the formation of the Weimar Republic. The Olympic sailing competitions of the 1936 and the 1972 Summer Olympics were held in the Bay of Kiel. Ulf Kämpfer
Ulf Kämpfer (born 16 June 1972) is a German politician of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) who has been serving as the Lord Mayor of Kiel since March 2014. Education and early career Kämpfer was born Eutin, West Germany. After his graduation in Plön, he studied jurisprudence and philosophy at the University of Göttingen and the National University of Ireland in Galway. For two years, he worked as a research assistant in the German Bundestag. After further studies at Humboldt University in Berlin and Columbia University in New York City, he graduated with a doctorate in 2004 with his comparative law thesis ''Self-determination people wishing to die: Euthanasia in German and American Constitutional Law'' (''German'': Die Selbstbestimmung Sterbewilliger: Sterbehilfe im deutschen und amerikanischen Verfassungsrecht) in Berlin. Shipbuilding is the construction of ships and other floating vessels. It normally takes place in a specialized facility known as a shipyard. Shipbuilders, also called shipwrights, follow a specialized occupation that traces its roots to before recorded history. Shipbuilding and ship repairs, both commercial and military, are referred to as "naval engineering". The construction of boats is a similar activity called boat building. The dismantling of ships is called ship breaking.
