Kidwelly Town Council
Kidwelly Town Council (Welsh: ''Cyngor Tref Cydweli'') is the town council serving the town of Kidwelly and the village of Mynydd-y-Garreg in the county of Carmarthenshire, Wales. Background Kidwelly Town Council consists of 16 Councillors. The council appoints a Mayor, known as the ''Mayor of Kidwelly and Mynydd Y Garreg'', and takes care of local issues, such as Kidwelly Quay, the Town Cemetery, Christmas Lighting, the Church Clock, Glan yr Afon Nature reserve, the War Memorial and Remembrance Garden. It also manages a large estate and promotes local tourism. The town council is taking over responsibility of the playgrounds from Carmarthenshire County Council, under an asset transfer scheme. Welsh ( or ) is a Celtic language family, Celtic language of the Brittonic languages, Brittonic subgroup that is native to the Welsh people. Kidwelly
Kidwelly ( cy, Cydweli) is a town and community in Carmarthenshire, southwest Wales, approximately northwest of the most populous town in the county, Llanelli. In the 2001 census the community of Kidwelly returned a population of 3,289, increasing to 3,523 at the 2011 Census. It lies on the River Gwendraeth above Carmarthen Bay. The community includes Mynyddgarreg and Llangadog. History The earliest written form of the name, 'Cetgueli', is recorded by the monk, Nennius, writing in the 9th century. One theory is that the name means the land, territory, or kingdom of Cadwal. Mynydd-y-Garreg
Mynydd-y-Garreg or Mynyddygarreg ("The mountain of the stone") is a village in the county of Carmarthenshire, West Wales. It borders the historic town of Kidwelly. Governance Mynydd-y-Garreg is in the Kidwelly community and shares with it a mayor and an elected council, Kidwelly Town Council. Transport By road, the village lies 1 km from the A484, which connects Llanelli and Carmarthen. For rail travel, Kidwelly railway station lies 4 km (2.5 miles) away by road. It provides a two-hourly daytime service on Mondays to Saturdays. Some trains reach as far as London and Manchester. Carmarthenshire
Carmarthenshire ( cy, Sir Gaerfyrddin; or informally ') is a county in the south-west of Wales. The three largest towns are Llanelli, Carmarthen and Ammanford. In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a municipal government such as that of a city or a town. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them. UKIP
The UK Independence Party (UKIP; ) is a Eurosceptic, right-wing populist political party in the United Kingdom.
