Kids On TV
Kids on TV was a Canadian punk- house queercore band from Toronto, active from 2003 to 2013. The group consisted of John Caffery on bass and vocals, Minus Smile on drums, electronics and vocals, Chris 'Wolf' Mills on guitar and vocals, and Roxanne Luchak on keyboard and vocals. The band was known for performing outside of the usual venues, and appeared at warehouses, steambaths and film festivals, among other places. History They released their first EP, ''Hustle!'' in 2003. In 2005, they collaborated with Boy George on a remix of their song "Breakdance Hunx". That song appeared on their debut album, ''Mixing Business With Pleasure'', which was released in 2007. Also in 2005, their remix of the song "Bitchsy" by Lesbians On Ecstasy appeared on ''Giggles In The Dark'', an LP devoted to remixes of Lesbians On Ecstasy's songs by various artists. Diamond Rings (musician)
John O'Regan (born July 6, 1985) is a Canadian artist and musician. He is best known by his stage name Diamond Rings. Music career Early years in the D'Urbervilles and Habitat O'Regan got his start in music as one of the founding members of post-punk quartet the D'Urbervilles (renamed Matters in 2011), where he was known as John O alongside Tim Bruton, Kyle Donnelly and Greg Santilly. O'Regan also formed the Casio-pop duo Habitat in 2006 with his partner at the time, Sylvie Smith of The Barmitzvah Brothers. Solo career (2008–2010) O'Regan began writing Diamond Rings songs in the summer of 2008 after graduating with a degree in Studio Arts from the University of Guelph. ''Friends in Bellwoods'' is a compilation album, released in 2009 by Out of This Spark as a benefit for Toronto's Daily Bread Food Bank. The album is a sequel to the 2007 compilation ''Friends in Bellwoods''. Where the original album was, in part, a celebration of the scene and community that had emerged around the Trinity-Bellwoods home of Ohbijou's Casey Mecija, ''Bellwoods II'' marked an ending, as its recording and release coincided with Mecija learning that she would have to move out of the house due to a toxic mold infestation."Ohbijou members hunt for new home". Out of this Spark is an independent record label founded in the fall of 2006 by Stuart Duncan in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The label is an artist-focused label that works to release fun, exciting and innovative music, with a focus a facilitating the distribution of music to the masses for musicians in a participatory fashion. ''Friends in Bellwoods'' is a compilation album, released in 2007. It was the first release on Out of This Spark, through a distribution deal with Sonic Unyon Records. The album is named for a house on Bellwoods Avenue in Toronto, shared by two members of the band Ohbijou, which ''NOW'' has written "might just be the new epicentre of T.O.'s indie rock community". All of the featured artists are members or friends and collaborators of Ohbijou, and many of the tracks on the album were recorded in the house itself."Friends in Bellwoods". Alien8 Recordings is an independent record label founded in 1996 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The label was founded by Sean O'Hara and Gary Worsley. The label released material from prominent noise artists such as Merzbow, Think About Life, Aube, Keiji Haino, Masonna, MSBR, Francisco López, Bastard Noise, and Daniel Menche, as well as electronic artists such as Tim Hecker, Lesbians on Ecstasy, Les Georges Leningrad, and Books on Tape. Alien8 also is known for releasing the 2003 debut of indie-pop band The Unicorns. It also had two sub-labels, Fancy Recordings and Substractif, which released music from 2001-2004. In 2018, Worsley bought Montreal's famed record store Cheap Thrills, where he had been working since 1998. Alien8 has not released any music since 2011. The Great Hall
The Great Hall is a music and cultural events venue in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Built in 1889 by Gordon & Helliwell for the West End branch of the YMCA of Greater Toronto, Toronto Young Men's Christian Association, the building has served as the headquarters of several organizations throughout its history, including the Royal Templars of Temperance, the Independent Order of Foresters, and the Polish National Union. It underwent a significant restoration project by Triangle Development that was completed in 2016 and reopened as an events venue in September of that year. Fucked Up is a Canadian hardcore punk band from Toronto, Ontario, formed in 2001.
