The Nine Network (stylised 9Network, commonly known as Channel Nine or simply Nine) is an Australian commercial free-to-air television network. It is owned by parent company Nine Entertainment and is one of five main free-to-air television networks in Australia. From 2017 to 2021, the network's slogan has been "We Are the One". Glenn Ridge
Glenn Daryl Ridge (born 21 November 1955 in Adelaide, South Australia) is an Australian television and radio presenter, and the owner and managing director of the Q Media Group, a production company making television specials and documentaries. Career In the 1980s, Ridge hosted a music program in Bendigo, Victoria, called ''Breezin; two Ballarat children's television programs, ''Kids Only'' and ''Six's Super Saturday Show''; and a 90-minute music program, ''Off The Record''. In April 1991, he joined the Nine Network as host of the primetime quiz show ''Sale of the Century'', with co-host Jo Bailey, taking over from Tony Barber and Alyce Platt. He held the role for 10 years, making him the second-longest-serving host of ''Sale of the Century'' in Australia. Ridge is well known in Australian motorsport circles for his interest in the sport, having competed in many tarmac events, including Targa Tasmania and Targa West. ''Sale of the Century'' (stylized as ''$ale of the Century'') is an American television game show that originally debuted on September 29, 1969, on NBC daytime. It was one of three NBC game shows to premiere on that date, the other two being the short-lived game shows ''Letters to Laugh-In'' and ''Name Droppers''. The series aired until July 13, 1973, and a weekly syndicated series began that fall and ran for one season. The rights to the show were purchased in 1980 by Australian TV mogul Reg Grundy, who produced a similar show called ''Great Temptation'' in the 1970s. Grundy subsequently launched an Australian version of ''Sale of the Century''. Grundy's modified format was then used in a revived American ''Sale of the Century'' that aired on NBC from January 3, 1983 to March 24, 1989. ''Wombat'' was an Australian children's television show which screened on the Seven Network from 1979 to 1990. It was produced at BTQ7 in Brisbane and aired across Australia on weekday afternoons, and later Saturday and Sunday mornings. Synopsis The show had a number of hosts or presenters who were accompanied by their co-host Agro, a puppet portrayed/voiced by comedian Jamie Dunn, who had previously become known on the program ''Boris' Breakfast Club''.
