Kiana Weber
Kiana June Weber (born January 14, 1990) is an American violinist, best known as a former member of the Irish band Gaelic Storm. Early life and education Weber was born near Chelsea, Michigan to her parents David Weber and Connie Weber. In 2007 she graduated from Chelsea High School. She later graduated from University of Michigan’s School of Music. Career Weber started her career with a Celtic band called ''The Chelsea House Orchestra''. In 2009 Weber joined the Canadian violin troupe, Barrage. She toured with Barrage for three years and appeared in theaters, festival stages, and television specials in North America, Central America, Europe and Asia. Weber joined Gaelic Storm in the fall of 2012, and played on several albums, including '' Go Climb a Tree''. Weber left the band in the summer of 2017 and was replaced by fiddler Katie Grennan. Chelsea, Michigan
Chelsea is a city in Washtenaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 5,467 at the 2020 census. History The area was first settled as early as 1820 within the Michigan Territory by settler Cyrus Beckwith. It would be organized as Sylvan Township in 1834. The Michigan Central Railroad constructed a line through the area in 1848, and a post office was first established on January 4, 1849. It was originally named Kendon. The name was changed to Chelsea on July 19, 1850 when the train station opened and community was formally platted. The name Chelsea came from Elisha Congdon, who suggested the name after his hometown of Chelsea, Massachusetts. Chelsea incorporated as a village in 1889. Gaelic Storm
Gaelic Storm is a Celtic band founded in Santa Monica, California in 1996. Their musical output includes pieces from traditional Irish music, Scottish music, and original tunes in both the Celtic and Celtic rock genres. The band had its first big break in 1997, appearing in the film ''Titanic'' and recording songs on the movie's soundtrack album. Their most recent album, '' One For The Road'', was released on March 17, 2021. Barrage (group)
Barrage was a violin-based, modern worldbeat ensemble based in Calgary, Alberta. The group employed a blend of eclectic violin music with high-energy physical choreography during their performances. They released several albums, and their filmed concert specials were featured on television networks around the world. Barrage played a diverse mix of material from a wide variety of genres, including Celtic, swing, bluegrass, jazz, rock, calypso, pop, Canadian fiddle and Latin, as well as contemporary versions of traditional material from countries including China, Ukraine, and India. ''Come from Away'' is a Canadian musical, with book, music and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein. It is based on the events in the Newfoundland town of Gander during the week following the September 11 attacks, when 38 planes, carrying approximately 7,000 passengers, were ordered to land unexpectedly at Gander International Airport. The characters in the musical are based on (and in most cases share the names of) actual Gander residents and stranded travellers they housed and fed. The musical has been received by audiences and critics as a cathartic reminder of the capacity for human kindness in even the darkest of times and the triumph of humanity over hate. We Banjo 3 was a band from Galway, Ireland that played a blend of Irish traditional music, traditional Irish, old time, and bluegrass music they called Celtgrass. The band was composed of two sets of brothers, Enda Scahill and Fergal Scahill and Martin and David Howley. Earle Hitchner, music writer for ''The Wall Street Journal'', described their playing as a "freshness and finesse bordering on the magical," and LiveIreland proclaiming them "the hottest group in Irish music." Their debut album ''Roots of the Banjo Tree'' was released in 2012 and was named "Traditional Music Album of the Year" by ''The Irish Times''.
