Redwan Ahmed
Redwan Ahmed is a Bangladesh Liberal Democratic Party politician and a former state minister of liberation war affairs. He is a 4-term Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Comilla-6 and Comilla-10 constituencies. Career Ahmed was first elected to parliament from Comilla-6 Chandina Upazila under the first Ziaur Rahman government as a candidate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party. 1979. Subsequently, he was also elected in 1986, 1991 and 2001. He served as the State Minister for Jute and Textile in 1995 and again as State Minister for Liberation War affairs in the Second Khaleda Cabinet. Ahmed left Bangladesh Nationalist Party in 2006 and joined the Liberal Democratic Party. He is a presidium member and general secretary of the party. BIRDEM
BIRDEM, the Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders at Shahbag, Dhaka, Bangladesh, is a 600-bed multidisciplinary hospital complex of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh. The hospital was established in 1980 with the financial support of Bangladesh. In BIRDEM, 3,000 patients are treated in the Out Patients Department (OPD) every day. No other hospital in Bangladesh serves so many diabetes patients. History The Diabetic Association for Pakistan (later Bangladesh Diabetic Association) was formed under the leadership of national professor Muhammad Ibrahim in February 1956. He offered a ground floor room of his home in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, to be used by the association, and there he began outpatient services for diabetes. The Bangladesh Freedom Party is a party founded by Captain Khandaker Abdur Rashid, Colonel Syed Faruque Rahman and Major Bazlul Huda, the chief conspirators of the killing of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 15 August 1975. 1989 Assassination plot On 10 August 1989, activists and leaders of Freedom Party allegedly launched an attack at Sheikh Hasina's the then residence in Dhanmondi's Road 32. Freedom Party members Kajol and Kobir with 10-12 men attacked Hasina's residence by hurling bomb and firing gunshots, the case statement read. They chanted the slogan “Farukh-Rashid Jindabad” as they left the place. Following the incident, Zahurul Islam, a security guard of the residence, filed two cases—one for plotting to kill Hasina and other for hurling bomb—with Dhanmondi Police Station.
