Khaliji (music)
Khaliji music (also spelled Khaleeji; ar, الموسيقى الخليجية meaning Gulf music) is the music of Eastern Arabia, the Gulf Arabian states and it is popular across the Arab world. It is traditionally characterized by heavy use of the rebab, oud and other string instruments such as the violin, the occasional use of habbān, and the inclusion of percussion instruments such as the mirwas, tabl, and duff drums. Khaliji music first started as a bedouin tradition with poetry sung by a tribe's shaa'ir, which means poet, usually accompanied by a rebab, the lyrics dealt with tales of honor, love, camel riders, and glory warriors. Kuwaitis were the first commercial recording artists and composers in the Persian Gulf region, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia pioneered the Khaliji genre into its modern form in the second half of the 20th century and soon became the focal point of the industry, but in recent years the UAE has had an arguabely bigger impact with musical artists such as Hus ...

Eastern Arabia, historically known as al-Baḥrayn ( ar, البحرين) until the 18th century, is a region stretched from Basra to Khasab along the Persian Gulf coast and included parts of modern-day Bahrain, Kuwait, Eastern Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Oman. The entire coastal strip of Eastern Arabia was known as "Bahrain" for a millennium. Liwa (music)
Līwa ( ar, ليوه / ALA-LC: ''laywah'') is a Khaleeji traditional dance of African origin performed in Eastern Arabia (Arab states of the Persian Gulf), mainly within communities of descendants of people from the Swahili Coast (Tanzania and Zanzibar). It is also performed by the African-descended Sheedi community, as well as the Baloch of Makran Coast and Karachi area. Overview A large number of male participants arrange themselves into a circle, which is anchored by one or several drum players. A man paces in the middle of the group playing a simple reed instrument called '' mizmar'' or ''surnai'', whose plaintive sharp sound reminds the listener of an oboe. The circle claps and dances in place, while individuals join a line which rhythmically paces around the inside of the circle. Shams Bandar Naif Al-Aslami ( ar, شمس بندر نايف الاسلمي , born 28 April 1980), known simply as Shams ( ar, شمس), is an arab singer of Persian Gulf and actress. She dropped her Arab citizenship denouncing her Arab and Gulf culture and origins, gaining citizenship of Saint Kitts and Nevis instead. Nawal El Kuwaitia
Nawal El Kuwaitia ( ar, نوال الكويتية; born Nawal Thaher Al-Zaid, 18 November 1966) is a Kuwaiti singer and actress. Career Nawal studied at the Music Institute in Kuwait. Nawal's first album was released in 1984. The majority of her albums are not titled, but rather are referred to by number (e.g. Nawal 98, Nawal 99). She has also filmed many music videos (mainly in Lebanon) and was one of the first Khaliji artists to do so. Abdallah Alruwaished ( ar, عبدالله الرويشد, born July 18, 1961) is an Arab singer and actor from Kuwait. He has released over thirty albums. Biography Alruwaished began his solo career in the early 1980s with the release of his first album with AlNazaer Music Production Company. Alruwaished released albums throughout the 1980s. During the early 1990s, Alruwaishid relocated temporarily to Egypt as Kuwait was invaded by Iraq. From there he continued his music career. After the end of the Gulf War, Alruwaished returned to Kuwait and continued with his music career. Hind (Arabic language:), also spelled ''Hend'', is a female singer from Bahrain. Her work includes popular Arabic music as well as traditional Khaliji music. She was discovered by the musician Anwar Abdullah, and gave her the nickname "Hind", but her real name is Suhair. Hind's debut album ''Rabeie El Galb'' was released in 2000, after which she became well recognized in Bahrain and the eastern province of Saudi Arabia.
