Keystone Symposia
Keystone Symposia on Molecular and Cellular Biology or Keystone Symposia is an internationally recognized nonprofit organization that annually hosts 50–60 conferences and symposia covering a range of research fields in the life sciences and biomedical sciences. Most conferences are held in westward mountain venues in North America but conferences are held on six continents. The organization also hosts the annual Fellows Program for postdocs and early-career scientists from disadvantaged or underrepresented backgrounds. The 50th anniversary of Keystone Symposia occurred in 2022. History Believed to be inspired by European conferences located at ski resorts, Keystone was founded by C. Fred Fox, a professor of microbiology in the Molecular Biology Institute at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), with sponsorship from International Chemical and Nuclear Pharmaceuticals (ICN). This list of life sciences comprises the branches of science that involve the scientific study of life – such as microorganisms, plants, and animals including human beings. This science is one of the two major branches of natural science, the other being physical science, which is concerned with non-living matter. PLOS
PLOS (for Public Library of Science; PLoS until 2012 ) is a nonprofit publisher of open-access journals in science, technology, and medicine and other scientific literature, under an open-content license. It was founded in 2000 and launched its first journal, ''PLOS Biology'', in October 2003. As of 2022, PLOS publishes 12 academic journals, including 7 journals indexed within the Science Citation Index Expanded, and consequently 7 journals ranked with an impact factor. PLOS journals are included in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Margaret Goodell
Margaret (“Peggy”) A. Goodell (born March 23, 1965) is an American scientist working in the field of stem cell research. Goodell is Chair of the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Baylor College of Medicine, Director of the Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine (STaR) Center, and a member of the National Academy of Medicine. She is best known for her discovery of a novel method to isolate adult stem cells. Goodell has been on the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine since 1997 as a member of the Center for Cell and Gene Therapy, and the Departments of Pediatrics, Molecular and Human Genetic, and Immunology. Vishva Mitra Dixit (born ) is a physician of Indian origin who is the current Vice President of Discovery Research at Genentech. Early life and education Vishva Dixit was born in Kenya in 1956. His parents were both physicians, working for the British colonial authorities. Dixit was interested in science from an early age, and his parents encouraged him to pursue a career in medicine. Malaria Eradication Scientific Alliance
The Malaria Eradication Scientific Alliance (MESA) is an organization founded on the research carried out by the Malaria Eradication Research Agenda (malERA). "malERA" was a project carried out by the scientific community to identify the steps and future research that must be done in order to eradicate malaria. It was created after the Malaria Forum in 2007, hosted by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, reestablished malaria eradication as a long-term goal. "malERA" first launched in 2008, and resulted in a research and development agenda which was published in a ''PLoS Medicine'' magazine in 2011. Gordon Research Conferences are a group of international scientific conferences organized by a non-profit organization of the same name. The conference topics cover frontier research in the biological, chemical, and physical sciences, and their related technologies. The conferences have been held since 1931, and have expanded to almost 200 conferences per year. Conference locations are chosen partly for their scenic and often isolated nature, to encourage an informal community atmosphere. Contributions are "off-record", with references to the conference in any publication strictly prohibited to encourage free discussion, often of unpublished research.
