Kevin Wright (Australian Footballer)
Kevin Wright (19 February 1933 – 3 October 2003) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Wright was used initially in the midfield, either as a centre, rover or wingman. Towards the end of his career he played more as a forward after establishing himself with a six-goal haul in the opening round of the 1958 VFL season. He kicked 43 in 1959 to top Fitzroy's goal-kicking and was their most prolific forward again the following season with 36 goals. Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Fitzroy won a total of eight VFL premierships, of which seven (1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916 and 1922) were won whilst they were nicknamed the Maroons and one (1944) as the Gorillas. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. 1958 VFL Season
The 1958 VFL season was the 62nd season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 12 April until 20 September, and comprised an 18-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Collingwood Football Club for the 13th time, after it defeated by 18 points in the 1958 VFL Grand Final.
