	Kevin P. Lembo Kevin P. Lembo (born September 6, 1963) is a Democratic elected official who served as the Connecticut State Comptroller, the statewide elected official responsible for reporting on state finances, administering health care plans for public employees and retirees, and paying the state's bills. He took office on January 5, 2011 and resigned effective December 31, 2021. Lembo is the first openly gay individual to be elected to statewide office in Connecticut. Biography In 2004, Lembo became Connecticut's first State Healthcare Advocate, and was reconfirmed to the position in 2008. Along with Nancy Wyman, his predecessor in the Comptroller's office, he was co-chair of the state SustiNet healthcare plan. In 2010, Lembo won the endorsement of the Connecticut Democratic Party at their state convention, and later defeated Waterbury, CT mayor Michael Jarjura in the August 10, 2010 Democratic primary. 	Connecticut State Comptroller The State Comptroller is the chief fiscal guardian of the State of Connecticut. The duties and responsibilities of the state comptroller include, among other things, overseeing state accounting, preparing state financial reports, paying and administering benefits to state employees, settling demands against the state that do not first have to be approved or adjusted by the General Assembly, administering miscellaneous appropriations for employee taxes, insurance, and health services, and administering grants to police, firefighters, and municipalities. Early education Raised in Alpha, New Jersey, he went to Phillipsburg Catholic High School, and then received a degree from Rutgers University. He later attended night school and received a master's degree in finance from Baruch College in New York City. Political career He is a Darien, Connecticut, resident and was the unsuccessful Republican candidate for the Connecticut seat held by Christopher Dodd in the 2004 U.S. Senate election.
