Kevin O'Dwyer (silversmith)
Kevin O' Dwyer is an internationally exhibited artist whose works embrace the fields of design, metalworking and sculpture. He creates primarily in silver. Career He began his training in 1979 with jeweller Harriet Dreissigger and continued his studies with silversmiths William Frederick and Heikki Seppä. He has also occupied roles as artist-in-residence in the U.S state of Georgia, and lecturer in design methods at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, where he taught students business and product development skills. He works from his studio in Durrow, County Offaly. Works O'Dwyer's artwork is influenced by Irish prehistoric art, bronze-age artefacts, early monastic metalwork, and 20th century design and architecture. His childhood was divided between the monastic ruins of Tipperary and the skyscrapers of Manhattan.and this has influenced the way he approached the creation of artefacts or site-specific installations. Lindenhurst is a village in Suffolk County, New York, United States, on the southern shore of Long Island in the town of Babylon. The population was 27,253 at the 2010 census. The village is officially known as the Incorporated Village of Lindenhurst. Geography Lindenhurst is located at (40.685400, -73.372228). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 10.0 km2 (3.8 sq mi), of which is land and (1.57%) is water. Durrow, County Offaly
Durrow () is a small rural village and townland in County Offaly, Ireland. Durrow is located on the N52 off the N6 road between Kilbeggan (in County Westmeath) and Tullamore (in County Offaly). Durrow Abbey, surrounded by woods, is one of Ireland's most important early Christian monasteries founded by Saint Colmcille. Some mistakenly assign County Laois as the location of this particular monastic settlement due to the presence of a larger town in Laois called Durrow. Monastery Iona was established in exile and during that time Colum Cille yearned for monasteries in Ireland. The poem 'An Exile's Dream' specifically indicates Durrow as location for a monastery. Durrow was then part of the territory of Tethba, which now lies mostly in Co. Longford. It was also located near one of Ireland's five ancient routes, Slighe Mór. Boora Bog
Boora Bog (Irish ''Portach na Buaraí'') is a cutaway peat bog situated in County Offaly, Ireland. Peat was harvested for fuel between the 1950s and 1970s, and the land is now being reclaimed for agricultural and eco-tourism use. There was a lake called Lough Boora (''Loch na Buaraí''), which was drained by Bord na Móna, but was not used for peat production: this area is now maintained as a nature reserve by the Irish Wildlife Trust. There are two angling lakes. Archaeology In 1977, a prehistoric site was discovered at Lough Boora. Excavations revealed a temporary settlement dated to the Mesolithic era. No structures were discovered, but stone axe heads, arrow heads, and blades were discovered, surrounding a series of fire sites. The finds were dated to approximately between 6800 BCE and 6000 BCE.
