Kevin M. Tucker
Kevin M. Tucker (June 21, 1940 – June 19, 2012) was an American police commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department from 1986 to 1988. Tucker was appointed police commissioner by Philadelphia Mayor Wilson Goode in 1986 in the aftermath of the 1985 MOVE (Philadelphia organization), MOVE bombing and a separate corruption scandal. Tucker is credited with implementing police department reforms, including the reintroduction of Community policing, foot patrols, which are still used as of 2012. He stepped down as commissioner in 1988 for a position in the private sector. Biography Early life Tucker was born in Brooklyn, New York, on June 21, 1940, to Ireland, Irish immigrant parents as one of his family's six children. Philadelphia Police Department
The Philadelphia Police Department (PPD or Philly PD) is the law enforcement agency, police agency responsible for law enforcement and investigations within the City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The PPD is one of the oldest municipal police agencies, fourth largest police force and sixth largest non-federal law enforcement agency in the United States. Since records were first kept in 1828, at least 289 PPD officers have died in the line of duty. The Philadelphia Police Department has a history of police brutality, intimidation, coercion, and disregard for Constitutional constitutional rights, particularly during the tenure of Frank Rizzo as police commissioner (1967–1971) and mayor (1972–1980).
