Kevin Hawkins (speedway Rider)
Kevin Roy Hawkins (born 21 July 1954) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from England. Career Hawkins started his British leagues career during the 1976 National League season, where he rode for Peterborough Panthers. The following season he improved his average and helped Peterborough win the Fours Championship during the 1977 season. After another season with Peterborough in 1978, he signed for Nottingham Outlaws and doubled up in the highest division with Coventry Bees in the 1979 British League season. He continued to ride for Coventry for seven years and was with them when Coventry won the 1981 League Cup and 1985 League Cup He returned to Peterborough in 1985 and was their leading rider for two seasons. After finishing runner-up in the 1987 league pairs he rode for one more season in 1988. Buckingham
Buckingham ( ) is a market town in north Buckinghamshire, England, close to the borders of Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire, which had a population of 12,890 at the 2011 Census. 1985 British League Season
The 1985 British League season was the 51st season of the top tier of speedway in the United Kingdom and the 21st known as the British League. Team changes Wimbledon Dons dropped to the National league, this was the first time that Wimbledon would not compete in the top tier of speedway. Summary Oxford Cheetahs won the league and cup double. The Oxford team, financed by the Oxford Stadium owners Northern Sports and headed by David Hawkins was the most expensive team assembled in the history of the league. The team included Danish international Hans Nielsen (signed for a record £30,000) in 1984. Nielsen had topped the previous season's averages on Oxford's return to the league and was imperious during 1985, finishing with an exceptional average, way ahead of any other rider. The team eased to the league title by a clear ten points, with Simon Wigg, Andy Grahame, Marvyn Cox, Jens Rasmussen and Melvyn Taylor all riding over 50 matches each during the season. Ritchie Mark Hawkins (born 9 November 1983 in Peterborough, England), is a speedway rider in the United Kingdom, who in 2013 rode with the Ipswich Witches in the Premier League. Summary The league comprised 16 teams - one fewer than the previous season. Wolverhampton Wolves had dropped down to the National League. American Bruce Penhall (who would be crowned world champion by the end of the season) topped the averages and helped Cradley Heathens win their first title. The Cradley team included Penhall, rising Danish star Erik Gundersen and British internationals Alan Grahame and Phil Collins. Peterborough Panthers
The Peterborough Panthers are a British speedway team based in Peterborough, England. They are three times champions of the United Kingdom, winning the highest level league in 1999, 2006 and 2021. History 1970–1994 The Panthers inaugural season was in the 1970 British League Division Two season in which they finished in 10th place. The team spent 25 consecutive seasons in Division 2 (British League Division 2 and the National League). Their best finish was winning the Division 2 title and Knockout Cup during the 1992 British League Division Two season. 1995–2013 The 1995 Premier League speedway season resulted in the merger of both divisions, meaning that the Panthers competed in the top division for the first time. Summary The league was sponsored by Gulf Oil for a fifth season. It comprised 18 teams - one fewer than the previous season. White City Rebels had folded and their riders became Eastbourne Eagles assets as Eastbourne were promoted from the National League. Bristol Bulldogs also dropped out after only two seasons back in the top flight. Coventry Bees won the league for the second year running. Hull Vikings' second place was their best ever finish.
