Kettering High School
Kettering High School was a four-year high school within the Detroit Public Schools system. The school, located in the low-income Gratiot Town/Kettering neighborhood, was around 1,200 students under capacity at its closure in 2012. History Kettering opened in 1965 in response to the growing Detroit Public School system (DPS) and to serve the needs of factory workers and their families in east Detroit. The school is named after Charles F. Kettering, co-founder of DELCO and head of research at General Motors for 27 years. Construction began in 1961 with removal of housing on the land where Kettering would stand, but due to financial difficulties and worker strikes, the school did not open until fall 1965. The school was compliant with desegregation efforts from the start. Additional classrooms and the gym were built between 1967 and 1969; a pool was planned but was delayed until 1975 by ''Milliken v. Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) is a school district that covers all of the city of Detroit, Michigan, United States and high school students in the insular city of Highland Park. The district, which replaced the original Detroit Public Schools (DPS) in 2016, provides services to approximately 50,000 students, making it the largest school district in the state. Education Achievement Authority
The Education Achievement Authority (EAA or Authority) was the governing body of the Education Achievement System (EAS or System), a Michigan statewide school system for failing schools. It was discontinued in 2017 and the schools were returned to the Detroit Public Schools. The office of the State Superintendent or an Emergency Manager of a school district may transfer a failing school from its district into the System that is not under an approved redesign plan. Stan Edwards
Stanley J. Edwards (born May 20, 1959) is a former American football running back. A native of Detroit, Edwards played college football at the University of Michigan from 1977 to 1981 and for six years in the National Football League (NFL) for the Houston Oilers (1982-1986) and Detroit Lions (1987). His son, Braylon Edwards, also played football at Michigan and in the NFL. Early years Edwards was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1959. He attended Kettering High School in Detroit. Chambers Brothers (gang)
The Chambers Brothers were a criminal organization heavily involved in the distribution of crack cocaine in the city of Detroit, Michigan, during the 1980s. The brothers consisted of: B.J., Larry, Willie and Otis Chambers. They also had three other sisters and a set of twin brothers. One of the twins, Fredrick, became known for being a top notch military drill sergeant in California. The siblings moved to Memphis, Tennessee, while the four brothers became notorious nationally when the Detroit Police Department confiscated video tapes of the brothers counting their laundry baskets full of money, and flaunting their excessive wealth. Cornerback
A cornerback (CB) is a member of the defensive backfield or secondary in gridiron football. Cornerbacks cover receivers most of the time, but also blitz and defend against such offensive running plays as sweeps and reverses. United States Football League
The United States Football League (USFL) was a professional American football league that played for three seasons, 1983 through 1985. The league played a spring/summer schedule in each of its active seasons. The 1986 season was scheduled to be played in the autumn/winter, directly competing against the long-established National Football League (NFL). However, the USFL ceased operations before that season was scheduled to begin. The Michigan Wolverines football team represents the University of Michigan in college football at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision level. Michigan has the most all-time wins in college football history. Marion Body (born c. 1960) is a retired American football cornerback. He played for the University of Michigan from 1979 to 1982 and in the USFL for the Michigan Panthers in 1983. A native of Detroit, Michigan, Body attended Kettering High School. He enrolled at the University of Michigan and played football under head coach Bo Schembechler from 1979 to 1982.
