Kerry O'Brien (athlete)
Kerry Dennis O'Brien (born 17 April 1946) is a retired Australian runner. Competing in the Steeplechase (athletics), steeplechase he won a silver medal at the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games and finished fourth at the 1968 Summer Olympics. He held the 3000 metres steeplechase world record progression, world record in this event between 1970 and 1972. At the 1970 British Commonwealth Games, 1970 Commonwealth Games, O'Brien fell at the penultimate water-jump, while leading, and failed to finish the race. He also fell during the 1972 Summer Olympics, 1972 Olympics. He retired in 1973 having won nine Australian Championships in Athletics, Australian titles in the steeplechase, 5000 m and cross-country running. International competitions References

Kerry O'Brien (journalist)
Kerry Michael O'Brien (born 27 August 1945) is an Australian journalist based in Byron Bay. He is the former editor and host of ''The 7.30 Report'' and ''Four Corners'' on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). He has been awarded six Walkley Awards during his career. Life and career O'Brien was born into a Catholic family in Brisbane, Queensland, where he attended St Laurence's College. He started as a news cadet at Channel 9 in Brisbane in 1966. He has worked in newspapers, wire service and television news and current affairs, as a general reporter, feature writer, political and foreign correspondent, interviewer and compere, and served as press secretary to Labor leader Gough Whitlam.
