Kerinci Regency
Kerinci is a regency (''kabupaten'') in Jambi province, on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. The regency has an area of . Kerinci Regency had a population of 229,495 at the 2010 Census, 234,912 at the 2015 Census and 250,259 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2021 was 251,911. The regency largely surrounds the city of Sungai Penuh, which until 2008 was part of the regency but is now independent of it. The regency seat is at Siulak. Kerinci is located from Jambi City, the capital of Jambi Province. 1995 Kerinci Earthquake
The 1995 Kerinci earthquake struck near Sungai Penuh in Jambi Province on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. It earthquake occurred at 01:18 WIB (UTC +7) local time on October 7. The earthquake measured 6.7 on the moment magnitude scale, and 6.9–7.0 on the surface wave magnitude scale. Between 84 and possibly even 100 people were killed in the earthquake. An extimated 4,000 buildings collapsed or were seriously damaged while a further 5,000 suffered some damage. Earthquake The earthquake was associated with shallow strike-slip faulting along the Great Sumatran Fault, instead of thrust mechanism associated with the Sunda Megathrust to the west coast. It ruptured the Siulak segment of the fault which was also involved in a magnitude 7.3 earthquake in 1909. Kerinci Seblat National Park
Kerinci Seblat National Park is the largest national park on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. It has a total area of 13,791 km2, and spans four provinces: West Sumatra, Jambi, Bengkulu, and South Sumatra. Geography It is located between 100°31'18"E - 102°44'01"E and 1°07'13"S - 3°26'14"S. The park area includes a large part of the Barisan mountain range, which form the western spine of Sumatra island and includes the highest peak in Sumatra, Mount Kerinci (3,805 m), one of more than five active volcanoes in the national park. Caldera
A caldera ( ) is a large cauldron-like hollow that forms shortly after the emptying of a magma chamber in a volcano eruption. When large volumes of magma are erupted over a short time, structural support for the rock above the magma chamber is gone. The ground surface then collapses into the emptied or partially emptied magma chamber, leaving a large depression at the surface (from one to dozens of kilometers in diameter). Although sometimes described as a Volcanic crater, crater, the feature is actually a type of sinkhole, as it is formed through subsidence and collapse rather than an explosion or impact. Regencies Of Indonesia
A regency ( id, kabupaten), sometimes incorrectly referred to as a district, is an administrative division of Indonesia, directly under a province and on the same level with city (''kota''). Regencies is divided into districts (''Kecamatan'', ''Distrik'' in Papua region, or ''Kapanewon'' in the Special Region of Yogyakarta).
