Kerala Congress
Kerala Congress is an Indian political party founded at Kottayam, Kerala in October, 1964, by a block of former Indian National Congress leaders led by K. M. George. The party is primarily active in central Kerala. The establishment of Kerala Congress could be traced to resignation and later death of P. T. Chacko, the Home Minister in the R. Sankar-led Congress ministry (1962–64). Fifteen rebel Congress Members of the Legislative Assembly subsequently supported a successful no confidence motion on the Sankar ministry. K. M. George and R. Balakrishna Pillai, backed by the Catholic Church and the Nair Service Society leader Mannathu Padmanabha Pillai, formed "Kerala Congress" at Kottayam on 9 October 1964. Kerala Congress (Anti-merger Group) was a faction of Kerala Congress led by Skaria Thomas in Kerala. Kerala Congress (Anti-merger Group) was formerly a part of Left Democratic Front (LDF). History In April 2010 the Kerala Congress (M) and Kerala Congress (J) led by P. J. Joseph decided to merge. But P. C. Thomas opposed the merger. Both P. J. Joseph and P. C. Thomas claimed the party symbol of a bicycle and the party name of Kerala Congress. Registration of Kerala Congress has been frozen by the Election Commission. The case is under review. The P. C. He had been the Minister for Public Works from 18 October 2007 till his resignation for his party chairman P. J. Joseph to become the minister. PJ Joseph
Palathinal Joseph Joseph (born 10 June 1941) is an Indian politician from Kerala Congress serving as the Member of the Legislative Assembly from Thodupuzha Assembly Constituency in Kerala. A former cabinet minister, Joseph entered Kerala politics through Kerala Congress in 1968. Early life P. J. Joseph was born on 10 June 1941 to Palathinal Joseph and Annamma at Purapuzha in Idukki District in central Kerala. He married Dr. Santha Joseph, retired as Additional Director, Kerala Health Department, on 15 September 1971. The couple has four children, three sons and one daughter, named as Appu John Joseph, Dr. Anu Yamuna, Antony Joseph and the late Jomon Joseph. 2020 Kerala Local Elections
Elections to local bodies (Panchayats, Municipalities and Corporations) in Kerala were held in December 2020. The polling was held in three stages; on 8, 10 and 14 December, with the votes counted and results announced on 16 December. The Left Democratic Front (LDF), who also forms the state government, won in more than half of all gram panchayats, two-thirds of district panchayats and in four out of six municipal corporations. The United Democratic Front (UDF), led by Indian National Congress (INC), improved its vote share nearly by 0.7%, compared to that in the previous 2015 election. Despite that, they were able to win just three out of fourteen district panchayats and one corporation, in comparison to seven and two respectively in the previous election. 2019 Indian General Election
General elections were held in India in seven phases from 11 April to 19 May 2019 to elect the members of the 17th Lok Sabha. Votes were counted and the result was declared on 23 May. Around 912 million people were eligible to vote, and voter turnout was over 67 percent – the highest ever, as well as the highest ever participation by women voters. The Bharatiya Janata Party received 37.36% of the vote, the highest vote share by a political party since the 1989 general election, and won 303 seats, further increasing its substantial majority. In addition, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 353 seats.
