Kep Track
The Kep Track is a bicycle, walking and horse track in the Darling Range and further east in Western Australia. It commences at Mundaring Weir and proceeds through Chidlow, Wooroloo, Wundowie, Bakers Hill and Clackline to Northam, for approximately . It is based on the route of the former Western Australian Government Railways Eastern Railway from Mundaring to Clackline, then following the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme pipeline route through to Northam. The promotion and planning of the track is linked in with the Golden Pipeline Project of the National Trust of Western Australia. Darling Range
The Darling Scarp, also referred to as the Darling Range or Darling Ranges, is a low escarpment running north–south to the east of the Swan Coastal Plain and Perth, Western Australia. The escarpment extends generally north of Bindoon, to the south of Pemberton. The adjacent Darling Plateau goes easterly to include Mount Bakewell near York and Mount Saddleback near Boddington. It was named after the Governor of New South Wales, Lieutenant-General Ralph Darling. History The feature was first recorded as General Darling Range by Charles Fraser, Government Botanist with Captain James Stirling aboard in March 1827. Maps from the 1830s show the scarp labelled " General Darlings Range"; this later became Darling Range, a name by which the formation was still commonly known in the late 20th century despite common understanding of it being an escarpment. Munda Biddi Trail
The Munda Biddi Trail is a long-distance mostly off-road cycling trail in Western Australia. It runs for over from Mundaring to Albany. The completed Munda Biddi Trail opened end-to-end in April 2013 when it claimed the title of the longest continuous off-road cycling trail of its kind in the world. Etymology The name ''Munda Biddi'' means "path through the forest" in the Noongar Aboriginal language, and it runs largely through an undeveloped natural corridor. The track traverses vast areas of unspoiled forests and bushland with mostly gentle terrain. While the track is open year-round riding conditions are better during spring and autumn, and potentially hazardous from December to March because of the often extreme heat and fire danger at that time of year. Bibbulmun Track
The Bibbulmun Track is a long-distance walk trail in Western Australia. It runs from Kalamunda in the east of Perth to Albany, and is long. It is managed by government agencies, and has a foundation. It traverses the Darling Range and has inspired reflections about the state of the Western Australian environment by William J. Lines in his book ''A long walk in the Australian bush''. The name comes from the Bibbulmun, or Noongar people, Indigenous Australians from the Perth area. History The route has been changed twice, partly due to it passing through a significant section of forest that was at risk to change from either forestry, bauxite mining or dieback. Railway Reserves Heritage Trail
The Railway Reserves Heritage Trail also on some maps as ''Rail Reserve Heritage Trail'' or ''Rail Reserves Historical Trail'', and frequently referred to locally as the ''Bridle Trail'' or ''Bridle Track'' is within the Shire of Mundaring in Western Australia. Names and sections The trail comprises a loop between Bellevue and Mount Helena, and a line from Mount Helena to Wooroloo. The loop, called ''Trail Loop'', is in length, and follows the two Eastern Railway routes travelling east from Bellevue and meeting up again in Mount Helena, thus forming a loop. The southern route, which traverses Mundaring, is the ''First Route'', opened in 1884. In contrast, the northern route, which passes through John Forrest National Park, follows the ''Second Route'', opened in 1896. Golden Pipeline Project
Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail (also known as the Golden Pipeline Drive Trail) was a project conducted by the National Trust of Western Australia along the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme pipeline at the time the pipeline was being celebrated for its 100 years of operation. Project The project included the creation of guide books, web sites and other materials about the trail. The project was initiated in the late 1990s; further material was developed between 2001 and 2003, and included the Kep Track as part of the project. Goldfields Water Supply Scheme
The Goldfields Water Supply Scheme is a pipeline and dam project that delivers potable water from Mundaring Weir in Perth to communities in Western Australia's Eastern Goldfields, particularly Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie. The project was commissioned in 1896 and completed in 1903. The pipeline continues to operate today, supplying water to over 100,000 people in over 33,000 households as well as mines, farms and other enterprises. Water scarcity During the early 1890s, thousands of settlers had travelled into the barren and dry desert centre of Western Australia seeking gold, but the existing infrastructure for the supply of water was non-existent, and an urgent need arose.
